Vale announces layoffs

Despite it being less than 6-weeks before Christmas, Vale’s Coleman Mine in Sudbury that have been shut down for 30 days, due to safety concerns. This is after an engineer from Vale went into the shaft 10 days into the month, and reported work needed to be done. Temporary layoff notices have been given out to all employees affected.
 

Fundraiser starts with 1/2 mil donation

Fundraising for the La Ronde in Timmins got started with a bang this week, in its aim to build a new facility. La Caisse populaire de Timmins has already donated $500,000 towards the cause. The Timmins’ francophone cultural organization has a target of $3 million to replace their facility the one destroyed in a fire two years ago.
 

Military drills coming to Greater Sudbury

The public is in Greater Sudbury is being asked to mark their Callander, ahead of what some might think, is a military invasion. Personnel from Garrison Petawawa will be conducting training in the Walden area. Residents may see and hear uniformed military personnel with weapons, military helicopters and the use of low-level explosives. It all happens next week.
 

Man held in custody after breaking into shed, crashing car

An alleged break and break and enter has landed a Papineau-Cameron Township man in some trouble. This was after a shed was broken into. The man then left the scene, briefly got his vehicle that was stuck in a ditch, before driving off. Police found the vehicle on Boxwell Road in Bonfield with extensive front end damage. A 22-year-old remains in custody.
 

Public cleared after Moose Spotted in Lake Nippising

A Moose in the Water in North Bay has shut down Memorial Drive, in hopes to keep crowds away. The city says that the MNR are in the process of assisting a moose to safely vacate Lake Nippising and the area. Residents are thanked for their understanding.
 

Three charged for drugs, weapons

Three Timmins residents are facing numerous charges following an investigation by the Timmins Police Service’s Drug Enforcement Unit. Kate Catin from Timmins Police says it all began when police executed a search warrant at a residence in the city.

The estimated street value of the items seized is approximately $22,000.
