School buses cancelled in Timmins Area Today

School Bus and School Bus Transportation was canceled today in Timmins and area. Parents, Guardians and Students are all reminded school remain open during the cancellation, unless noted otherwise.
 

History is on our side – Best

The Ontario College Strike, now the longest of its kind in the Provinces History could come to an end today, should the voting facility decide to take the Colleges final offer and return to the class room. Bill Best, Cambrian College president says history is on their side.

The results of the faculty vote are expected tomorrow.
 

Texting Scam hits greater Sudbury

First another scam has hit hydro customers in the North. The Hydro texting scam that has already hit Thunder Bay has now reached around to Greater Sudbury. Customers receive a text claiming to be from Hydro One, and says payment is required for their account. Hydro One says not to respond, but to simply delete the message.
 

Teen driver charged after blowing past school bus

It was a scary moment for drivers, and passengers yesterday in the North Bay area on the way home from work and school. Mattawa OPP say that a 19-year-old driver from Mansfield, QC was on Highway 17 in Papineau-Cameron township when he passed numerous vehicles, and then a stopped school bus that had it’s overhead red lights activated. The vehicle was located a short time later and the driver was charged.
 

Consultant hired for new Aquatic Facility

The city of Timmins is one step closer to seeing a new aquatic facility, become a reality. A consultant has been hired by the city of Timmins to the tune of just over $72,700. The consultant says his work will take approximately 25 weeks of consulting work. The timeline for the building of the proposed $48-million Timmins aquatic centre has not been announced.
 

Fire fighters called to a late-night wood-chip fire

It was all lights and sirens yesterday to for Sault Ste. Marie firefighters, headed to an industrial wood-chip fire on Yates Ave yesterday. A pumper and tanker were called out shortly after 10 p.m. to the And-Son Contracting yard, to the same spot where a similar fire occurred in a pile of hog fuel one week ago. The cause of the blaze was not released.
