NDP say block “back to work legislation”

The latest move to get Faculty at Ontario’s 24 colleges back to work has been blocked. This is after the Premier herself attempted to table a bill, forcing back to work legislation. While it was supported by the PCs it did not get unanimous consent. NDP leader Andrea Horwath said in a statement yesterday, that while the NDP want students back in class, it needs to be achieved through a deal.  Had the legislation gone forward, classes would have resumed Monday.

A 45-year old man, and 30-year old woman have been nabbed for car theft, after driving through a Police Training Exercise. Reports say that officers were conducting a training exercise Memorial Avenue, using an automatic licence-plate reader, when the reader alerted them to a stolen vehicle that had just passed by. A subsequent vehicle stop lead to a number of charges.
 

Mickey Auger – new food bank president

The South Porcupine Food Bank, has a new President. Mickey Auger has assumed the chair after Richard Bouvier’s passing last month, after a battle with cancer.  Auger is a former employee for the Timmins Police Service..
 

No injuries, following collision

The side of a sedan shows signs on damage following a two vehicles collision yesterday, in Sault Ste. Marie. It happened at Bruce and Wellington streets shortly after 2 p.m. No one was hurt, there is no word yet as to charges.
 

Woman takes Axe to couples car

Mattawa OPP say they took one woman into custody, after a call… that she was swinging an axe at a vehicle. Constable Shona Camerand says, what’s more, someone was inside the vehicle at the time of the attack.

A 19-year old woman from Mattawa is facing a number of charges.
 

Bus set up as shelter following fire

A city bus acted as a “temporary shelter” for a number of residents in Sault Ste. Marie apartment fire yesterday. Authorities say it happened on 108 Allard Street. Fire crews say they found heavy smoke and open flames in one of the units on the third floor. The blaze has since been contained. There were no injures.
