Student return to class today
Students at Ontario’s 24 colleges return to class today following back to work legislation for faculty Sunday. From the Provincial Liberals. Those who have decided to resign their semester because of the strike will receive a refund.
Request for re-zoning approval
A request to rezone the former New Sudbury has been granted despite some opposition. St. Raphael school on Dublin Street went to planning committee this week to seek rezoning for the former school, in order to build multiple dwellings units, retirement home. This would include the building of a six-storey residential building on the property.
New Sudbury Theater Center Artistic Director
The Sudbury Theatre Centre has announced they have a new artistic director. John McHenry will take the chair, January first. The hiring comes after the former general manager, and former artistic director, announced they were leaving in the wake of theatre financial problems. City council has since given $200,000 directed toward outstanding bills.
4-month-old-case has a suspect
A case now, now 4 months old got a break this week. Constable Shona Camairand says this is after the OPP call about a break and enter that had occurred at a residence in Powassan.
A 42 year old has since been arrested and charged.
Fees going up for Sault Ste. Marie Residents
The majority of city’s user fees are increasing for Sault Ste. Marie residents, effecting Jan. 1, 2018. City council passed a resolution Monday that will see the increases in line with just over $281,000 of revenue for the city to be applied to the 2018 operating budget. Transit riders, who took the hardest hit in 2017, will see fares increase another 10 cents per cash fare starting Jan. 1 while monthly passes will increase by about $1.
Needle found in Halloween Candy
It’s a story that disappoints, and reminds us all to be vigilant. Timmins Police say that while the Trick or Treating are well in the rear-view mirror, no piece of candy should taken for granted. Kate Catin from Timmins Police has details.
