The first of its kind in the North
A $5,000 grant from the Bell Let’s Talk is funding a need for hope, in the North. The Northern Initiative for Social Action (or NISA), thanks to the grant, will see Canada’s first ever alternatives to suicide program, establish in Sudbury. The program will be running by next year and consist of 13 facilitators from both NISA and Sudbury Action Centre for Youth (SACY).
D.A.R.E. closes in North Bay
The Program known across Canada as D.A.R.E… has closed in North Bay. The Drug Abuse Resistance Education program was cancelled, according to reports, due to a loss of funding from local school boards. A new program is being sought to provide similar education regarding drugs, bullying and other issues.
Clean up done after Hydraulic Leak in the city
The City of Sault Ste. Marie Transit Services say the clean up is complete after hydraulic fluid leak. It happened when an inbound bus to the city. Sault Ste. Marie Fire Services Department quickly contained the spill and the Ministry of the Environment and Climate Change Spills was also contacted.
Three-way stop on the agenda
A safety of a busy Timmins Intersection is expected to make a stop in Timmins City council this week. Possibilities of a pedestrian crossing installed on Pine Street near Autumnwood St. Mary’s Gardens will be up for discussion along with the possibility of a three-way stop sign intersection at Pine and Fifth.
Regarding “The Notebook”
There is no further issue, for a Sault Ste Marie Police officer who lost his notebook. According to reports, this is after he allegedly lost a notebook detailing an incident and arrest in the city. A statement from Police Chief Robert Keetch indicates, this was unfortunate, but an isolated incident.
Education and Scarves wrap around 5 years
It’s a 5th anniversary for a Company helping others, bundle up, with some vital information. Réseau ACCESS Network says the Bundle Up in Red campaign marks a week-long HIV awareness program volunteers will be distributing red scarves throughout downtown Sudbury and passing on information educating residence as about HIV.
