Over 500 spots opening for those who need care

For those in Greater Sudbury, who have found themselves without a doctor, now have an option for care, before heading to the Hospital. A patient roster review found many had moved or found other providers meaning that now, over 600 patients could soon have a primary care provider thanks to the Sudbury District Nurse Practitioner Clinics. The two sites accepting new patients are on Riverside Drive and on Main Street in Lively.
 

Feasibility study sought for safe injection site

54 people admitted to hospital, in Greater Sudbury, over the past six months for drug overdoses… was enough to talk about safe injection this week at City council. A new report filed in the numbers and suggests an aid – Sudbury could house a safe injection site. The community services committee will hear next week about the prospect of undertaking a feasibility study for a site, which will cost $150,000 to $200,000.
 

OPP costing motion ends in tie

Meanwhile in North Bay the bid for OPP costing last night came to an end, at least… for the time being, with a tie vote with only half of council and the mayor participating. Councillor Mark King, who put forward the motion, has called for a notice of reconsideration, which means the matter will go before council for another vote in two weeks time.
 

Drugs found in the possession of speeder

OPP North of Sault Ste. Marie say more drugs, and a speeder is off the road. This is after they stopped a vehicle travelling at a high rate of speed through some smaller communities. During the investigation a quantity of what is believed to be cocaine was seized. The 37-year-old driver, from Calgary, is facing a number of charges.
 

Ring of Fire discussions continue this week

Representatives from Sudbury are down in the big city this week, in meetings with top executives of Noront Resources Ltd., The Canadian mining company that has the biggest claim in the Ring of Fire mining development. Sudbury, along with Sault Ste. Marie and Timmins (who has backing from North Day) have all responded to an official invitation from Noront on why their communities would be the best to host a new ferrochrome processing facility.
 

Over 100 charges laid in 180 stops

North Bay and area OPP are reminding those heading out to do some fishing on frozen waterways or perhaps heading out sledding, the rules have not changed. Since Friday, officers within the North Bay OPP Detachment conducted over 180 checks and laid over 100 charges, including fishing Without a Licence, and Fail to Wear Proper Helmet contrary on a sled.

Several varieties of milk and cream products are being recalled due to the presence of a sanitizer. While the recalled applies to dairy products sold mainly across Atlantic Canada they include several varieties of Farmers’ white and chocolate milk, as well as a variety of sizes of coffee cream and whipping creams.
