Human Remains Found

An investigation revolving around human remains continues in Elliot Lake. The remains were found in a wooded area in the Mississauga Avenue area yesterday. Currently, it’s not known how long the remains have been there due to the environmental conditions and everything being frozen.
 

Needle exchange tops 1.2 million

The questions of safety and supervision are starting to come up in the minds of some, after numbers regarding needle distribution were published this week. Public Health Sudbury and Districts’ needle exchange program handed out more than 1.2 million needles last year. That number has steadily climbed from 791,000 in 2015. The program says that it’s goal is to provide clean needles in an effort to prevent the spread of diseases and infections. Their return rate? 63 per cent.
 

New diggs coming to Powassan area

Those looking to downsize may not have an option in the Powassan area…. construction of a 30-unit apartment building could begin as early as this spring, according to a city staff. It’s one of possibly two moves that could bring 60 new units to the area.
 

Acquiring property needed before work continues – MTO

The Province of Ontario and the MTO says acquiring of properties is what’s needed before environmental permissions are in place, to deal with a busy and somewhat infamous intersection. The intersection of 17/94, otherwise known as Corbiel Corners… could be headed toward a rebuild. The ministry says design work has been completed and the funding is in place, he said, but the other clearances are still pending.
 

Cycling Program coming to Greater Sudbury

While Spring is still over a month away, cycling enthusiasts are already pumping up their tires in anticipation of new funding coming to Sudbury’s cycling infrastructure, in the amount of 1.1 million dollars. City council endorsed the municipality’s participation in the program this week. Local municipalities are kicking in 20% for the four-year program.
 

Barrie area driver facing charges in North Bay

An impaired driver, pulled over while speeding, has been pulled off the road, following a traffic stop. While the North Bay OPP haven’t said where the stop was made the driver was arrested and taken to the North Bay OPP Detachment for breath tests. The Barrie Area man is facing at least 3 charges.
