4 deaths under investigation

The death of four people in Ryerson Township near Burk’s Falls remains under investigation. Reports suggest that the three victims – two females and one male – were related and resided in the house where the crime occurred. The fourth victim – an adult male was not related to the victims. Currently, the incident is being treated as triple homicide and suicide.
 

Remains identified as Missing Man

Elsewhere human remain found in Elliot Lake have been identified as a missing Northern Ontario Man. 31-year-old Joseph Topping was reported missing from Elliot Lake on Jan. 8. Search efforts focused on a wooded area off Mississauga Avenue in Elliot Lake. The cause of death has not been determined.
 

Cassells Street set to widen

An environmental assessment is now underway for the widening of a North Bay artery. The city says that the widening of Cassells Street is slated for this coming year, and that the assessment to do so is underway. The work is expected to go all the way from King Street and the Highways 11/17 Bypass. The city says the $6.1 million project is expected to be completed by 2021.
 

12-year-old facing charges

A 12-year-old is facing charges after allegedly making threats at a local school. It happened just before the weekend. Information received by police indicated that a threatening message was written on a surface within the school, which brought a police presence into the building for the remainder of the day. The release has not identified the school.
 

Hospital Emerge hitting Flu Spike

The Sault Area Hospital says they’re restricting visitors in the ER. This is following the latest outbreak of influenza in the North. The hospital says the ban began Saturday morning after a number of visitors attended the ER, bringing with them Flu like symptoms. The first case of influenza A for the season in Algoma District was confirmed in late November.
 

Break-in under investigation

Crime Stoppers in North Bay are looking for whomever broke into an ice hut on Lake Nipissing. The Callander incident saw a number of items walk out the door, including a 19″ Toshiba flat screen TV, a Coleman stove, a Hummingbird Fish Finder, a 10″ gas-powered ice auger and fishing gear.
