2nd Bear Attack, in under a week

The Sault Ste. Marie has Police issuing a notice following a second bear attack in under a week. Sonny Spina told us about the a young woman caught unaware… and her dog, who came to the rescue.

3-Vehicle Collision cleared

It took roughly an hour to clear the scene yesterday, but Greater Sudbury Police are not reporting any injuries following a 3-vehicle collision yesterday, during the drive home. It happened on Lasalle Boulevard close to Drummond Avenue. Fire and paramedics joined police on scene. There is also no word of any charges.
 

Tax break coming to North Bay Home owners

Most North Bay homeowners are going to be getting a tax break this year, in municipal property taxes that is, despite a tax levy increase. City staff is estimating an overall tax rate reduction of 1.49 per cent even though the city’s tax levy is up this year by 1.31 per cent. A recent report says the decrease is a result of a few factors, including a market assessment value shift.
 

Ford makes two stops in the North

Ontario PC Leader Doug Ford will be stopping in Timmins and the Sault today. His arrival comes in the wake of the PC Timmins riding association confirming Yvan L. Génier as its local candidate. Ford’s visit in Timmins will be brief as he is scheduled to appear at rally in Sault Ste. Marie later today.
 

Service expands for those with addictions

As the need for service expands… so will the response. Sudbury’s Rapid Access Addiction Medicine (or RAAM) clinic, says they’re now expanding hours of service to help those seeking a way out from drug or alcohol addiction. The clinic says its there for residence who are without a family doctor, and seeking immediate treatment without a referral. For more, residents should contact the clinic.
 

9 rescued from bush in Capreol

It was a unique rescue, but one just in the nick of time, either way this weekend just north of Capreol. An amphibious Sherp vehicle was used by police to rescue nine people stuck overnight in the bush during the winter weather, Saturday. They say the group had encountered heavy mud, deep snow in areas, running streams, open bodies of water and thin ice, making it impossible for them to get out.
