Polar Bear Express derails

Emergency crews were first on scene yesterday, at the site of a train derailment. The Polar Bear Express went off the rails yesterday 24 miles south of Moosonee. While an emergency response plan has been activated by the town of Moosonee, they say there has been no report no report of any serious injuries.
 

Sinkhole develops in North Bay

In North Bay a sinkhole nearly upended a cyclist yesterday. the one-and-a-half-foot hole opened up across the street from the Tim Hortons in the curbside lane on Trout Lake road. A call went into the city crews at around 8:30pm. There is no indication as to any timeline on a patch.
 

Ottawa man sentenced to 5-years in Timmins Court room

An Ottawa man had his day in a Timmins court this week, where he has been sentenced to 5 years to the transportation of drugs and fire arms. The 39-year-old was originally arrested in November of 2013 after being pulled over by South Porcupine OPP who did conducted a search of his hired vehicle.
 

Strike averted for Sault Ste. Marie paramedics

The labour issues between Sault Ste. Marie Paramedics and the municipality have been settled through arbitration. While Unifor Local 1359 says it’s not ideal, they say the local paramedics decided that a strike would be ultimately ineffective and not in the best interest for residents.
 

Off-leash dog park, proposed in Greater Sudbury

Sudbury Residents are invited to have their say when it comes to the proposal of an off-leash dog park in the city’s South End. It would be on an undeveloped parcel of land in the York Street north parking area, bordered by Paris Street and Boland Avenue. An open house is slated for Monday at the Grace Hartman Amphitheatre in Bell Park.
 

Traffic diversion in Timmins… again

Residents in Timmins are going to be given the run around this year once again, in a little under months time. The city says traffic east of the downtown area will again be changing significantly for a two-week period before, during and after the Stars and Thunder Festival. This week, City council approved a request to make Brunette Road a one-way street, southbound, to accommodate traffic demands during the festival.
