New numbers are trending in advanced polling

We’re now one day away from election day, and new numbers are trending when it’s coming to voting in the North. In Sudbury and Nickel Belt nearly 10,000 people in have already voted according Elections Ontario compared to 4 years ago when just over 4,700 people voted at five advance polling stations
 

Superstack steps aside in sulfur dioxide emissions

It’s a move said to be better for the environment, or at least… less damaging. Vale’s Superstack is being given less usage and two new stacks are now emerging from the company’s Copper Cliff Smelter Complex. Although the smelter is in full production, Vale says a new Wet Gas Cleaning Plant has been commissioned and is capturing process gases and sulphur dioxide emissions previously emitted by the iconic Superstack.
 

Police respond to dog attack

Police and EMS have responded to an incident involving a dog attack. They say it happened on Hillcrest Avenue where a woman in her 30s received serious dog bites that would require immediate medical care. The woman was transported to the North Bay Regional Health Centre by ambulance. Police contacted the North Bay and District Humane Society, as well as the health unit. The Humane Society is investigating.

Two men die in boating accident

Two men have died in a boating accident, North of Sudbury and South of Timmins. South Porcupine OPP say they responded to what they’re calling a “a marine-related incident” on Biscotasi Lake. The two males in their 50’s, both from Hamilton have died. It has been determined that alcohol was a factor and that life jackets were not worn.
 

Steel Coil falls off truck, slows traffic

There were no injuries, but certainly some onlookers in the area of Great Northern Road this week in Sault Ste. Marie. This was after a number of people witnessed a huge steel coil weighing, falling from a Transport Truck as it was turning onto Great Northern Road through the busy intersection. It was said to have weighed in at 18,000 kilograms.
 

Police are looking to speak to this man

North Bay Police are looking to put a name to a face, in an alleged theft. They have put out a photo of a man they say have information that could help in the investigation of the theft of a tractor and trailer valued at $100,000. It happened from a business on Highway 11 at the northern end of the city.
