Police seek tractor trailer in fatal hit-and-run
Sudbury Police are looking for a tractor trailer involved in a fatal hit and run. It happened yesterday in Garson at around 3:15pm in the intersection of Falconbridge Road and Penman Avenue. Greater Sudbury Police say a southbound tractor trailer struck a pedestrian at the intersection but little other information has been released.
Forgette booted from DSAB
North Bay Deputy Mayor Sheldon Forgette has been reportedly been given the boot, from the District of Nipissing Social Services Administration Board (DSSAB). The reason has been listed as a lack of attendance, or for missing too many meetings. Forgette is challenging the move, saying he was in attendance during at least one of those meetings via teleconference.
1/2 million could be needed for lagoon repairs
Timmins city council are being called upon to make, what some are calling “emergency repairs” at Bob’s Lake Sewage Treatment Lagoons. The city’s manager of public utilities, says there are two “immediate issues” that need to be fixed this year. A sewage inlet tank needs to be replaced because its condition has “deteriorated, and a one of the backup steel pipes is “severely corroded”. The repairs, with the engineering and designs might cost anywhere in the range of $450,000 to ½ million dollars.
Charges stayed against former fire chief
Charges facing a former Sault Ste. Marie Fire Services chief have been stayed. Mike Figliola was charged with fraud, uttering a forged document and breach of trust by a public official in the summer of 2017. This week, Figliola told an Ontario Court Justice Melanie Dunn he attended a conference in southern Ontario, but was not formally registered. He also submitted expenses, but did not mean to commit fraud. He has apologized.
Bigger running for re-election
Greater Sudbury Mayor Brian Bigger is running for re-election. Bigger confirmed Monday he plans to run for re-election in October’s municipal election. He plans on filing nomination papers today at Tom Davies Square.
Sudbury man facing manslaughter charges
A Sudbury man faces a manslaughter charge in connections with a collision. It happened on May 28 on Highway 17 west of Lively. Four vehicles were involved in the collision and the passenger of one of the vehicles, a 71-year-old woman, was pronounced dead at the scene. Three other people were taken to the hospital to be treated for serious injuries.
