Fire Bans remain in Place

A number of Fire Bans remain in place. East Ferris, West Nipissing, Mattawa, Sundridge and North Bay are a number of areas effected. By late afternoon, there were twenty nine active forest fires across the Northeast. 5 of those are in the North Bay area. Meanwhile. three new fires were confirmed in the Sudbury area. The largest of which is  Sudbury 40 measures 2.3 hectares. It is located east of Dougherty Lake, northeast of Capreol. Residents are urged, if they do participate in burning, to do so with great care.
 

Whooping cough identified in Powassan

It’s a reminder, at least from the North Bay Parry Sound District Health Unit, to get your kids vaccinated. This is after several cases of whooping cough have been identified in Powassan area. The health unit says that many residents should check to see if records are up to date, and until then, take preventative measures, such as coughing into your sleeve and washing your hands.
 

Wanted: Starr Finlayson, 25


The Greater Sudbury Police Service has outstanding warrants for the arrest of Starr Finlayson. They say Finlayson used forged documentation a number of times this year at a banking establishment, leading to charges of fraud. Starr Finalyson is 25-years-old and stands 5-5 and weighs 130 lbs. She has brown hair and blue eyes.
 

Lock it or Lose it – Timmins Police

The Timmins Police are encouraging residents to “lock it or lose it”, after what they call a “dramatic” increase in thefts through the months of June. The numbers say that out of 77 incidents of theft reported, 31 were thefts from vehicles or shed or garages. 16 of those incidents, were wallets taken from parked vehicles.
 

Soo Police handle just over 900 calls for service

During the month of June, East Algoma OPP say they responded to aprox. 906 calls for service, conducting patrols and responding to calls for service. The numbers say that 86 property and Vehicle related calls, 46 were property crime related calls while 98 were provincial offences.
 

Two blazes require personnel response

Timmins Police are investigating a suspicious car fire. They say yesterday morning, a 2004 Nissan Pathfinder was found burning on Father Costello Drive in Schumacher. Police say the car was empty and completely destroyed. The Timmins Fire Department put out the fire.
Elsewhere,
Sault Ste Marie Fire Services say they responded to a early morning fire yesterday, in the 100 block of Raymond Street. Deputy Chief Paul Milosvich told us, the fire itself was in a garage.

The heat generated from the fire also damaged a neighbouring property. Thankfully there were no injuries.

Police seek witnesses following collision

North Bay Police are looking for information following a two-vehicle collision in the 1200 Block area of Main Street in North Bay. They say the accident happened two days ago at around the dinner hour. Constable John Schultz says at one point a back and forth began.

Anyone with information is asked to come forward.
