Sudbury Hospice Foundation receives 100k boost.

End of life care has received a boost in Greater Sudbury. $100,000 from the Sudbury Dragon Boat Festival. The numbers are two years in the making for the Sudbury Hospice Foundation’s Stand by Me capital campaign. Construction for the addition officially begins this fall. adding 16,000 square feet to the hospice.
 

One dead, following plan crash

OPP say one person is dead after a plane crash in Rutherglen Township. Crews were called to the scene identified as roughly 100 metres from Talon Lake. No information has been given on the identity of the deceased, nor the cause of the crash.
 

Pup found, teens facing charges

Two eight-week-old puppies, stolen from the Timmins animal shelter last week, are back safe and sound… and two teens are facing charges. This is following an alleged break, enter, and theft Friday. Following an investigation, the two thought to be responsible are facing a number of charges. The shelter is now working on increasing security.
 

Construction company owners, supervisors charged

Sudbury Police say they’ve laid criminal charges following the death of a construction worker last year. The owner of the company has been charged with criminal negligence after a worker was using a construction vehicle when a concrete slab fell on it. The 38-year-old man was removed and taken to hospital. He died of his injuries. Police say the Ministry of Labour laid 12 charges against the company, its owners and two supervisors.
 

Suspect wanted in break-in, theft

Sault Ste. Marie Police Service are looking for information in identifying the suspect of a break in. They say this is after a male broke into the offices of Sault College. He then ransacked several rooms. The suspect took six iPads and damaged two before leaving the school.
 

Needle drop bin now available in Timmins

The city of Timmins now has its first needle disposal site. The location – The Porcupine Health Unit. The unit says the site includes a 24 hour needle drop box in front of the building. The health unit says this drop box will be available all through the year, to ensure safe disposal.

Mayor’s race for Soo is set

Nominations are in for the Seat of Mayor in Sault Ste. Marie, and there are three who are going to try and unseat Current Incumbent Christian Provenzano. They include Ted Johnson, Kemal Joseph Martinovic, and Rory Ring. Provenzano is also running for re-election.
