Another heat warning in place

Many are stepping out the door this morning, starting the work week… with another warm Monday. For the Sudbury region, North Bay and area, along with Timmins… Environment and Climate Change Canada is predicting a high of around 30 C today. This is all thanks to a hot and humid air mass will affect parts of Northern Ontario.
 

No new fires over the weekend

The forest fire situation took a breather over the weekend with no new fires in the northeast region plus three deemed extinguished. Suppression operations continue for the interior of Parry Sound 33. As of yesterday morning, there were still 41 active forest fires across the northeast. Of these, five are not yet under control.
 

Sk8te Hollinger could be under community control this winter

It may be hard to think of cooler temperatures but, nonetheless, Sk8te Hollinger in Timmins could be under city management. Local resident Ken Pye, who has organized the outdoor skating oval for years has stepped away down and Mayor Steve Black is garnering a list of people interested in helping to keep the rink going as a community non-profit.
 

Missing: Sault Ste. Marie Resident, Cindy Owen, 27 (Update – FOUND)


Sault Ste Marie Police are looking for a missing woman. Cindy Owen, also known as Debbie Owen, was last seen in the 100 block of Gran Street. The 27-year-old is described as Caucasian, five-foot-two, with a medium build, blond hair and blue eyes, a release says. She is known to frequent Sudbury, Manitoulin Island, Elliot Lake and Blind River.
 

Place des Arts asking for tax relief, additional resources

Place des Arts in Greater Sudbury could very well be getting a boost from Greater Sudbury. This coming council meeting is expected to see motion asking for a business case for the arts and culture centre. The group is seeking tax relief, as well as some operating funds. Council previously committed to $5 million over three years.
 

Splash pad for North Bay in 2019

North Bay could, within the next year, be the recipient of a splash pad. This is the hope and following the efforts of North Bay Family of Rotary. Rotary says its members have been working closely with City of North Bay staff the project they’re hoping will come to fruition by Canada Day 2019.
