Man found unconscious and injured on CP right-of-way

CP Railway says they’ve launched an investigation after a man was found on the CP right-of-way near Azilda. The name of that person injured in the incident and found unconscious has not been released. It’s unknown if he was struck by a train, fell from a train or was injured in some other way. The 23-year-old man remains in critical condition at HSN.
 

Two taken into custody following break and enter

Two men have been arrested for Break and enter, in Greater Sudbury. Reports it happened at an Addy Street home in Hanmer when the two gained entrance by forcing open a window. The men took various items from the home including money, bank cards, electronics and equipment. They fled the scene in a vehicle. Following an multi-day investigation, Katelynn Dunn from Sudbury Police say it all came to an end in Lively.
Both men, both 22-years of age are facing a number of charges.
 

Storm activity knocks out power for over 500 in North Bay

Wild, even if brief, storm weather did some significant damage in the North Bay area. It all happened at around 6pm. On York Street, a giant tree branch fell onto a driveway, while other tree damage was found in other areas such as Frost Street. Roughly 550 residents in the area without power for around an hour.
 

Scholarship to be given 2020 for Classical Studies

A new scholarship is slated to be for someone at Nippising University… starting in 2020.
Thanks to newly founded the Dr. Ilse Mueller Memorial Scholarship, the scholarship will be awarded to a third-year or fourth-year Classical Studies Student student with a minimum average of 85% and who has plans to pursue graduate studies. Dr. Mueller immigrated to Canada from Germany in the late 1960s. After completing school in Toronto, and Chicago, she taught at both Laurentian University, and Nipissing as a professor of Classical Studies.
 

Timmins area has a new HR Superintendent

The District School Board Ontario North East says they have a new superintendent of human resources. James Rowe is a resident of Haileybury and a former graduate of Cobalt-Haileybury High School, Rowe has been in the education field for 29 years, serving for 13 years as an administrator and 11 years as a teacher. He was also named senior manager of human resources for the Board in October of 2013.
 

Pay-by-plate system coming to Sudbury

Paying for parking is taking a leap when it comes to available technology in Greater Sudbury. The downtown Business Improvement Area says that by the end of the year a pay-by-plate system will be in place. The idea is simple enough, they say that in addition to purchasing the desired time, an app will allow users to add more time from their phones. Customers would not be required to go back to their car to put a new ticket in the windshield.

Norgoma to stay at Waterfront?

A new move from city council could move away from having the M.S. Norgoma move away from the Bondar Marina. They say the turnaround is a direct result of the efforts that a new board has put into the waterfront museum. They say that has directly shaped up the ship’s presence in the downtown. This is following an spring decision to remove the Norgoma from the downtown marina by the end of August, on account that the ship was an eyesore.
