Shed, workshop a “total loss” following fire

Sudbury Fire and emergency services were called to a blaze in the Ridgemount area. We spoke to platoon chief Mike Valiquette this morning who says the fire was fully involved when they arrived.

Valiquette says that the house itself was not damaged, but the shed was a total loss
 

No word yet on the new school on Fricker Site

A number of North Bay residents say that information regarding the new elementary school slated to be built on the W.J. Fricker site is needed. Board Chair David Thompson told reporters this week that they’re not hearing anything from the ministry of education. The ministry is waiting for a board’s request before moving to tender.
 

Cameras coming for School buses stop arms?

Timmins city council met this week, and on the agenda? A presentation review about adding cameras to the school bus stop-arms. The report says drivers who don’t stop for school buses when children are going on and off the bus could be seen, not only by drivers, but caught on camera as well.
 

Car winds up in ditch, driver charged

A Sault Ste. Marie Driver has been charged after a vehicle wound up in a ditch in the area of Allen’s Side Road… we spoke to Constable Sonny Spina who says…

United way in Sudbury kicks off another season

The United Way Centraide North East, was in Sudbury this week, announcing their annual campaign launch yesterday. Representatives from a number of the organization’s community partners were on hand to celebrate the work that the United Way has done while looking ahead to the year to come. During the 2016-17 campaign, United Way Centraide North East funded more than 36,000 individuals across Northeast Ontario. 26,000 of those were in Sudbury.
 

Ontario Northland CEO receives recognition

Ontario Northland President and CEO Corina Moore received some notoriety this week. She has been named Outstanding Women of the Year by the League of Railway Women, 2018. Founded in 1997, the League of Railway Women is committed to improving the railroad industry by connecting and cultivating women in rail.

Accident in North Bay stalls traffic

It was all lights and sirens to a Vehicle Accident on Fisher Street in North Bay yesterday just before the dinner hour. Traffic was snagged up as Police and emergency personnel emerged on the scene. There is no word yet as to the cause, nor if there were any injuries.
