Stand off continues in Sudbury
The standoff on Sunny Street in Garson continues between a 63-year-old suspect and Police, following a disturbance call that came in at around 6:00pm yesterday. It all began when witnesses say they heard gun shots ring out, after which time a 57-year-old woman, was transported to HSN with non-life-threatening injuries.
Highway closed following collision (update reopened)
Highway 17 was closed with detours in place between Verner and Sturgeon Falls following a collision. OPP took to twitter just this morning letting commuters know about the accident. There is no word as to whom was involved, nor if there were any reported injuries.
More coming to boost immigration
More is being done, when it comes to boosting immigration by the Timmins Economic Development Corporation. The group says that they continue to partner with the Timmins Multicultural Centre with the creation of what’s called the Northeast Immigration Portal online. The target is to attract immigrants to 40 communities in the northeast by showcasing the culture, integration and available jobs.
Police looking for two unidentified males
Sault Ste. Marie Police say they’re looking for two unidentified males, after a incident of break and enter was caught on camera in the township of Echo Bay. Police say the incident was on Lake Street North area. One male is seen entering a truck with a flashlight while the other allegedly acts as the look out. While they did not obtain any items of value, this is an ongoing investigation with other incidents.
Council reaffirms Kingsway plans
This week, Sudbury City Council reaffirmed the future Kingsway Entertainment District in the nickel city. The affirmation came, in part with a report from the general manager of community development who says that seven contractors have submitted bids for the tender for site preparation. The lowest of all the bids came in at $8.5 million. This along with future operating costs will be split between the city, developer Dario Zulich, Gateway Casinos and Hilton Hotels.
Break and enters investigated in North Bay
The North Bay Police says they’re investigating reports of vehicles being broken into entered in the Thibeault Terrace and Lakeshore Drive areas of the city. Thus far officers say that loose change and other items were taken from unlocked vehicles. They add that any suspicious activity should be called into Police or Crime stoppers.
