Teen driver charged with racing a motor vehicle

A speeder has been hauled off the Road. This is after Sudbury OPP conducted a traffic stop out of French River on highway 64. The driver? 17 years of age. The Speed? Not a number the police would release except to say that the teen has been charged with race a Motor Vehicle. The accused will be in court on January the 14th, his licence has been suspended and his vehicle impounded.
 

Snow Depth exceeding annual levels

It’s a good time of year for those who enjoy winter weather. Snow depth and water content are way above the long-term average for this time of year in the North Bay area. New numbers from the North Bay-Mattawa Conservation Authority put the average snow depth at 22.8 cm or 263% normal. The average water equivalence is 41.7 mm or 359% normal.
 

“100 People who Care” are being sought

The Timmins Chamber is encouraging 100 people in the community to make a difference. In short, they are looking for 100 people each contribute $100 every quarter. Those involved are encouraged to nominate a Timmins charity who would then receive a donation of $10,000. The 100 people who care campaign can include businesses, independents, and not for profits.
 

163 rides home offered to those in Sudbury

Numbers are in from the weekend, from Safe Ride Home Sudbury. Volunteers responded to 163 calls for service over the past weekend. Unfortunately, there were several refusals when callers were unable to provide valid evidence of insurance for their vehicles. Individuals who think they might need a Safe Ride Home are encouraged to check their documentation before they go out.
 

Algoma University in 2019

Algoma University is expanding education into 2019. How? Through expansion and renovations that will include two new classrooms, four offices, one meeting room faculty space, student study space and a student lounge. The Queen Street East site will increase to 12,000 square feet as at cost of $900,000, to be paid solely by the post-secondary institution.
 

Lock it or lose it

Lock it or lose it. OPP from across the Province are reminding residents to keep vehicles, sheds, garages and their own home secure. Constable Marie Ford is with Manitoulin Espanola OPP and says it might be the season for good cheer, however…
