Missing: 33-year-old Anthony Calhoun

Sudbury Police are looking for a missing man.  They are looking to check on the well being of 33-year-old Anthony Calhoun. Police took to social media (Twitter) this week, reaching out to the public for information. Anyone who has seen Calhoun is asked to call Police.
 

Police change over will be in June

The changing of hands from the West Nipissing Police, to the Ontario Provincial Police is Sturgeon Falls is now slated to happen in June of 2019. The move was slated to happen in February, but now the West Nipissing Police Services Board says they need more time to close down operations. There is no word as to how much the final renovation will cost.
 

$10,000 cheque going to help food bank

The Timmins Chamber of Commerce is helping to feed those in need this Christmas. The Chamber, through the Business Take the Lead Program presented the Timmins Food Bank with a $10,000 cheque. The money, in part, will be used to purchase a new sliding door commercial refrigerator.
 

Robberies are up in North Bay

North Bay Police are raising the alarm about an increase in area robberies. Number released this week say that 23 took place in October of this year, compared to only 16 in October of 2017. That’s an increase of 42 percent. Investigations continue. 24-hour businesses such as gas bars or convenience stores have been the major targets.
 

Sledders looking for city street access

The Timmins Snowmobile Club is looking for greater access, sledding into the New Year. The hope, according to the club, is to gain greater access for snowmobiles on more city streets. Council is expected to review changes to the local snowmobiling bylaw and have a vote in January.
 

Sault are School up for school

A Sault Ste. Marie east-end elementary school is up for sale. That was the decision this week by the Huron-Superior Catholic District School Board. Sister Mary Clare, on Glen Ave. closed in 2012. At that time it was declared surplus. Another former school board in the east end, St. Hubert is also up for sale.
