Snow… snow… and more snow coming
Sault Ste. Marie residents will want to keep the shovel handy today. Total snowfall amounts of 15 to 25 cm are likely by this evening. Elsewhere, in North Bay and Sudbury, snowfall with total amounts of about 15 cm are expected. The snow is the result of a developing low-pressure system expected to track over Northwestern Ontario.
-25 wind chills expected for many in the North
It’s going start to the morning for many in the North. Greater Sudbury, North Bay and Timmins all have Windchill values of -25 as you step out the door. An Extreme Cold Weather Alert is in place for Greater Sudbury until at least, 12pm noon today with 10-15 cm of snow expected.
Employment numbers up in Greater Sudbury
With the new year, comes new prospects. And employment numbers are up in Greater Sudbury. That is, at least, according to Stats Canada. The numbers group says that 400 new jobs toped out 2018, with over 82,900 jobs in the region in December. That number is up slightly, compared to 82,500 in November.
Splash Pad getting a new look
A fresh agenda for the coming years is being looked at by North Bay city council. Their first meeting of the new year next week will include a look at a proposed 6,000-square-foot splash pad behind North Bay Museum. Council is hoping to take a vote on the Rotary club project, pegged at more than $700,000.
NOJHL bus crashes on Highway 63
A bus accident involving a Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League is under investigation. It happened early Saturday. The French River Rapids were slated to take on the Timmins Rock, but a Highway 64 accident changed all that. Thankfully there were no injuries to anyone on the bus and the driver is being thanked for his quick actions.
4 charges in recent R.I.D.E. check
North Bay OPP are encouraging drivers to turn the key on new resolutions this year when it comes to alcohol consumption. They say while the number of relatively small number small, during the recent R.I.D.E. campaign North Bay OPP officers, 4 impaired-related charges came out of 103 driver checks.
