Witnesses sought following fatal collision
Sudbury Police are looking for witnesses to a fatal collision. It happened at on Big Nickel Mine Road late Sunday night claimed the life of the driver, the sole occupant of the vehicle. Reports say that at around 11pm the vehicle was travelling at “a very high speed,” when it left the roadway and struck a rock cut.
Water and sewer budget facing increase
North Bay’s 2019 water and sewer budget is facing an increase. Anywhere between one per cent or as much as 2.41 per cent, depending on the outcome of deliberations, at City Council that got underway yesterday. Coun. Mike Anthony, chairman of council’s engineering environment and works committee, has suggested, one per cent increase using a portion of an anticipated surplus from 2018’s water and sewer budget.
Power outage blamed on pole fire
The lights went out for just over 2,000 customers in the Timmins and Tisdale yesterday. The cause? A pole fire. The power went out in this area at around 8:40pm on yesterday with the estimated restoration being midnight. Those without power should contact Hydro One.
Slow down this morning – OPP
Yesterday’s Storm has Police reminding drivers to head out the door with caution. Depending on where you are, as much as 10 to 20 centimeters was forecasted yesterday. With poor visibility and poor road conditions are both expected, police urged motorists to drive slowly and with extra caution, being prepared to stop.
Soo firefighters going to 24-hour shifts
The Sault Ste. Marie Fire’s Department will soon be on a 24-hour work schedule. The schedule change is a result of arbitrator’s decision during previous collective agreement negotiations. Sault Ste. Marie has one of the last full-time fire departments to convert to a 24-hour shift model for firefighters. The change will occur for a three-year trial period.
Stolen sled recovered
A stolen Snow Mobile has been recovered. It was called in as stolen in early December, in the Kirkland Lake area. While is no word as to the details of the recovery… the white and red 2009 Polaris Dragon SP 800 CC sled is now back in the right hands.
