Snow is coming… and plenty of it!

Northern Ontario Residents are hoping for the best, and preparing for the worst, as another winter storm approaches. Environment Canada says that thanks to a Colorado low that will cross Southern Ontario Tuesday and Wednesday a number of areas including Sudbury and North Bay could get snow falls of 20 to 30 cm before tomorrow morning. Those in Sault Ste Marie can expect 10 to 20 cm of snow and blowing snow this afternoon into Wednesday.
 

Another ride service taking to the streets

Another ride sharing service has driven onto the scene in Sudbury. URide. Much like Uber, the company says that since coming to the Nickle city, they’ve had thousands of app downloads. They report needing to hire between 15 and 20 drivers per month for the next six months to keep up with demand. Currently, there are two dozen drivers in Greater Sudbury.
 

February 14th declared “Congenital Heart Defect Awareness Day”

In Timmins the physical heart will get centre stage, this Valentine’s Day. Timmins Mayor George Pirie has officially proclaimed Feb. 14 as Congenital Heart Defect Awareness Day. Currently it’s believed that 25% of children diagnosed with congenital heart defects will need heart surgery or other forms of surgical interventions.
 

Long-Term Care home re-development waiting for Ministry Approval

A long-term care home in North Bay is now one step away from re-development. Cassellholme is now waiting on the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care approval to obtain tender to move forward with site work. This week, City councillor and chairman of the Cassellholme board of directors Chris Mayne says that it won’t be until the tenders are called that the final price tag of the project will be known.
 

Those in Timmins, Sault Ste. Marie and North Bay eye GM workers

Timmins and North Bay have joined Sault Ste Marie in eyeing the 2,600 people who could be looking for work in Southern Ontario. Specifically, at Oshawa’s GM plant – many of them tradespeople. A number of job fairs will be held to that end. The selling points are expected to include, Shorter commutes, lower housing, cleaner air and no smog alerts.
 

Record snow depths being set in North Bay

Even without the impending storm, new records have already been set for Snow Depth for some in Northern Ontario. Joel Harrison is with The North Bay Mattawa Conservation Authority and says as of February first…

The snow is expected for today, is expected to taper off before it starts up again overnight.
