Science North undergoes $3.3mil in renovations

Science North’s $3.3-million renovation is turning heads. This was following a launch this week reopening the Center’s 4th floor. The science centre turns 35 this year, and the one area that had not been dramatically changed in that time. The science centre says all new exhibits, experiences, workshops, spaces and interactive areas make up only some of the change.
 

North Bay tax levy increase could be below under 7%

North Bay council and city staff are preparing to sit down, once again to hammer out the city’s 2019 budget. While a few identified projects can be deferred for a couple of years down the road, early indicators suggest the paring of a 7.93 per cent tax levy increase could be brought down to under seven.
 

Truck removed after closing highway 30 hours

Highway 144 from Highway 101 in Timmins to the Watershed has be reopened after 30 hours. This was after a transport truck wound up in the ditch. It was carrying propane and needed a crane to have it removed. The truck was the only vehicle involved. The driver was not injured.

Sault Ste Marie Police now involved in the search for some missing Pharmaceuticals. Specifically, liquid fentanyl. The report came in yesterday that the health care provider who had the medication no longer can locate it under their care. There is no warning yet as to any threat to the public.
 

Fire under investigation

Greater Sudbury Police are investigating a fire yesterday at a garage Huron Street. It was called in from the city’s Donovan neighborhood just before 11 a.m. Wednesday. Upon extinguishing the flames, firefighters located suspicious items inside the garage and contacted police. A 46-year-old man sustained injuries and was transported to hospital.
 

Cassellholme renovations waiting Provincial Goverment

A motion has been passed by North Bay City Council when it comes to long-term care in the city. Specifically, urging the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care to move forward with the redevelopment of Cassellholme as soon as possible. 70 per cent of the operating costs for Cassellholme are the responsibility of the provincial government, while fees from residents and municipalities each cover 15 per cent.

Two trucks stolen from the Timmins area


Two pick-up trucks in Timmins have been stolen. The first reported theft was from a Craig Street residence on February 3rd. Now a second theft, from late January has police looking for a second truck. It was removed from the lane between Father Costello Drive and the Schumacher Highway.
Red Truck described as:
• 2005 Ford Model 3500 – King Ranch
• Stolen around January 30th from outside the auto repair shop in the laneway between Father Costello Dr. and Algonquin Blvd.
• Orange with gold trim along the bottom
• Back rack with 6-ft. light bar on top
• Oversized 36-in. tires
