Gélinas – If you need Help; Police, Ambulance… you call 911.
Nickel Belt MPP France Gélinas has introduced a private members bill, regarding 911 service. She says that in rural and remote parts of Ontario spotty, including parts of her own riding… there is spotty or no 911 service available. She told us, it needs to a reliable Province Wide service.
Currently, those without the service are asked to call local medical services or the OPP.
Theft reported to North Bay Police
North Bay Police have responded to a complaint of theft in the city. Constable John Schultz says it happened on Duke Street.
More importantly, Shultz says that a number of family keepsakes were inside.
Provenzano confident tariffs will soon be lifted
Sault Ste. Marie Mayor, Christian Provenzano is confident US sanctioned tariffs on Steel and Aluminium could soon be lifted. This is after he, and a delegation led by Algoma Steel travelled to Ottawa this month to meet government officials and make a presentation on the issue. Details aside, Provenzano told reporters this week that after meeting with representatives from the Prime Minister’s Office, Minister of Finance and Minister of International Trade, an considerable effort is going to deal with issues.
Alex Trebek has Cancer
Alex Trebek, the Sudbury-born host of Jeopardy! Told the world this week, he has pancreatic cancer. In a video just over a minute long, the well-spoken Canadian Host says he wanted to be transparent regarding my health. Trebek, who is now 78, is one of 50,000 people in the United States diagnosed with stage 4 pancreatic cancer, and with the thoughts and prayers of millions, plans to beat the odds by beating the disease.
GSU warning of attempted fraud
Greater Sudbury Utilities is alerting residents, regarding the threat of fraud. This is after two calls from residents indicating that someone was threatening to pull the plug if money was not paid. In some cases, they were told to bring cash and meet in a local area. GSU is warning residents not to give over any financial information, and to contact them first with any questions.
New immigration pilot program coming to North Bay
North Bay could soon see a number of new faces. A new local immigration proposal could bring up to 300 residence to North Bay as early as this fall. The proposal has been spearheaded by the North Bay & District Chamber of Commerce and submitted to the federal government as part of a Rural and Northern Immigration Pilot Program.
