Millions going to fight homelessness in Sudbury
A new federal strategy is being launched to fight homelessness. That means $4.2 million is coming to Greater Sudbury, over the next five years to support community-based efforts to prevent and reduce homelessness. $1.2 million of that money will go to the Ontario Federation of Indigenous Friendship Centres.
World record attempt in North Bay
A North Bay fitness and wellness centre is teaming up with the Telus Motorcycle Ride for Dad to break a Guinness World Record. Cor Maximus says they hope to have the largest Ride for Dad this year, which raises money to fight prostate cancer. The current record is held by the YMCA of Greater Toronto when 454 people participated.
More cuts to court funding
Timmins Police is the latest force to feel the cuts from the Provincial Government when it comes to court services. Specifically, for court security and prisoner transportation costs. Just over $603,000 has been approved the spring down from nearly $623,000.
Soo man charged with theft
A Sault Ste. Marie man is facing charges of theft. This is after he attended a business in the 200 block of McNabb Street, allegedly concealed approximately $187 worth of merchandise and left the store without paying. The 26-year-old was apprehended by store security and held for police.
Transit changes ready for review
Proposed changes to routes and schedules for Greater Sudbury Transit are now ready for the viewing, and the public is invited to give their two-cents. Greater Sudbury Council has approved the Greater Sudbury Transit Action Plan: Better Routes. Better Schedules. Feedback will be accepted until April 23rd.
Airport workers ratify a new agreement
Unionized employees at Timmins Victor M. Power Airport have voted in favour of ratifying their new collective agreement. The agreement with the City of Timmins was announced Monday. The 19 airport workers affected include maintenance and airfield technicians, mechanics, electricians.
