Cambrian boast another perfect round for Graduates

Cambrian College is boasting another record year when it comes to Paramedicine. 15 years running the school has graduated a perfect score of students. Dan Lessard with Cambrian and says that a 100% success rate says plenty when community deal with the those who come to help.

The exam allows graduates to work as paramedics in Ontario.
 

The Fire, known as “Timmins 2” is out

After weeks of dousing hot spots and completing patrols, the fire is known as Timmins 2 near Gogama, has officially been declared out. The forest fire, which started in June and caused the closure of Highway 144 and even some evacuations. At its peak, it was listed as 4,645 hectares in size.
 

Sault Ste. Marie fire caused by an explosion

The cause of a fire that heavily damaged a commercial building in Sault Ste. Marie has been determined. An explosion of some kind was discovered from the debris following an extensive investigation by the fire marshal. James Allen is with the Fire Marshal’s office and says…

A number of potential fuel sources, such as gas lines are now being examined. There were no fatalities or injuries as a result of the fire, Allen confirmed. There are two separate residences located on the building’s second floor. Allen estimated the damage to the insured building, which he described as “severe,” to be around $200,000 (before making a more complete examination).
 

Over 800 Babies born in 2018

The North Bay Regional Health Center’s says they had a number of new faces in 2018, over 800 babies were born last year… numbers part of a report for the hospital last year. While it’s not clear whether this is up or down from the previous year, but numbers the hospital is happy to deliver. The North Bay Regional Health Centre saw quite a few people during 2018. The hospital’s annual report reveals 54,930 people came to the hospital’s emergency department in 2018. During that year the hospital saw 801 babies born at the facility.
 

Wildfires continue to burn in the North East

Wildfires continue to burn in the North East, into, now the 1st day of August 2019. Three are the Sudbury area, but all are under control. Sudbury 22 is 0.9 of a hectare north of Pine Lake, Sudbury 18 3.5 hectares west of Sinaminda Lake, and Sudbury 20 is under control at 1.4 hectares further west.
 

Candidates sought for youth council

The Sault Ste. Marie, Mayor’s Youth Advisory Council says they’re looking for fall candidates. The goal is to find young persons passionate about making a difference in Sault Ste. Marie. Rick Borean is with Community Development and Enterprise Services and says there are plenty of ways youth can serve.

Details on who can apply are on our website.
To serve on the council, youths must be between the ages of 14 and 24, reside in and are enrolled in a secondary or post-secondary school in Sault Ste. Marie. Youths under the age of 18 will need the consent of a parent or guardian to apply.
The deadline to apply is August 30.

Canadore coming out with 3 new programs

The province has given Canadore College the go-ahead to run three new programs slated, just over a year from now. The new programs include Media Fundamentals with an emphasis on Indigenous Culture and History. They will all be introduced in the fall of 2020.
Canadore officials say this certificate will provide students with an opportunity to explore the exciting variety of disciplines and careers within media, design and artistic industries with a focus on Indigenous culture and history.
