Daycares opening today across the Province… but not all.
It won’t simply be a matter of unlocking the door. Parents in the Greater Sudbury and in the Timmins area are being told not to expect all local daycare centres to be fully operational… just yet. Providers say they have had three days’ notice on phase two and that they will be reopening in a way that is safe and feasible.
Suspect steals road painting truck
OPP are calling this a first. A 27-year-old man is answering charges of allegedly taking a road painting construction truck in the west Parry Sound area. Police were called by work crews after a stranger driving one of their road painting trucks. The thief eventually stopped the truck and fled before police arrived and took him into custody.
No masks yet in North Bay Transit
North Bay Transit is not planning to require passengers to wear masks on city buses but add it’s a possibility when service returns closer to normal. The Transit office says it “may consider a mask policy” after it resumes collecting fares Monday.
Bushplane Heritage Centre opening next week
The Canadian Bushplane Heritage Centre in Sault Ste Marie will re-open on Wednesday, June 24. Closed by the coronavirus emergency since March 17, the popular museum’s re-opening was announced this week at the Sault Ste. Marie Tourism Board.
Cambrian College having a virtual commencement
It may not be the cap & gowns, to speeches and formalities… but Cambrian College will have a commencement either way. They are hosting an online graduation event this year. The virtual celebration is being held Wednesday, June 17 at 11 a.m., and will be live-streamed on Cambrian’s Facebook page and website.
Timmins Police fielding Fraud Calls
Timmins Police is in receipt of a number of complaints of Fraud calls. This is after 10 complaints of calls, soliciting for personal banking information. Many of them have been robotic calls. Police say it’s best to hang up and don’t engage fraudsters.

Algoma U will not have face-to-face classes this fall
Following several weeks of consultation, Algoma University is announcing that classes for the fall 2020 term will not be held face-to-face at any of Algoma’s campus locations. That includes Sault Ste. Marie, Brampton and Timmins. The school says the decisions were not made lightly, and they are committed to student success.
