Five new cases of  cases of  COVID-19 in North Eastern Ontario

Northeastern Ontario health units have identified five new cases of COVID-19, including one death in the service area of the Porcupine Health Unit. The death was a woman in her 90s tested positive April 20 has died. The case was related to the Timmins and District Hospital outbreak, which was declared over May 11.
One of the new cases is a nursing home in Thessalon where one staff member was found to have the virus. One is in the North Bay Parry Sound District. The other two were in the Thunder Bay District Health Unit area.
 

192-new cases of COVID-19  in Ontario

Ontario has again reported a daily increase of fewer than 200 new cases of COVID-19. Reported yesterday morning, 197 new cases confirmed by Public Health Ontario.
 

2-new-fires in the North East Region

There have been two new fires in the North East Region, one is an active fire in the Kirkland Lake region. The first for that area this season. It’s north of Temiskaming Shores and being observed at 15.8 hectares.
 

College Boreal team up with U of G for research project

College Boreal is working with the University of Guelph. Their research work involved strategies that local food producers use to reach consumers during the pandemic. It’s all to help local farmers and producers keep up with demand.
 

Structure fire in Gros Cap Sunday

Members of Prince Township Fire Service responded to a report of a structure fire this weekend. It was on Pinder Drive in Gros Cap just before 5 p.m. yesterday. Details have not yet been released as of yet as to the cause nor the total damage done.
 

2-fires in Greater Sudbury considered suspicious

Greater Sudbury Police and Greater Sudbury Fire Services responded to two suspicious fires in Sudbury. The first fire occurred late Saturday evening in the 1900 block of Paris St. and was contained to a single apartment. Firefighters also responded to a rooming house fire on Beech Street just before 5 a.m. Sunday. Damage to that structure is extensive. There were no injuries.

Splash Pads not open… yet

While the weather may have been conducive, the municipalities of North Bay and Callander did not re-open their splash pads this weekend. In short, they are still working out an operational plan to ensure a safe and positive experience for the whole family.
