Greater Sudbury Police target aggressive and dangerous drivers
Greater Sudbury Police officers are looking for aggressive and dangerous driving in the city. The Traffic Management Unit says in the past day initiatives in response to complaints in Capreol, Hanmer, New Sudbury (Auger and Maley) and Garson has resulted in charges against various drivers, including 14 speeding tickets, one charge of having no licence, a charge of having no insurance charge, two suspended driving charges and one no ignition interlock charge.
New OPP detachment to be built starting this summer
OPP in West Nipissing should have a new home by August of next year. The Town Council has awarded a contract for the construction of the new detachment to a Sudbury company, worth 9-million facility to start this summer.
The OPP is now operating out of temporary quarters on John Street, after taking over policing responsibilities from the former West Nipissing Police in June 2019.
ATV proposal goes nowhere with Timmins city council
A proposal to allow off-road vehicles and all-terrain vehicles to use Timmins city streets… has failed to traction with the city council. Evidently communities like Kapuskasing and Iroquois Falls do allow for ATV use on some of their municipal roads. Timmins Police Service Chief John Gauthier says in his report, Timmins is much larger and therefore has different rules.
Intersection gets the go-ahead for assessment and design
North Bay council has awarded a contract to for work related to possible upgrades around the Lakeshore and Pinewood Park drives intersection. The just over $222k contract, plus HST, Tuesday for a Schedule C municipal class environmental assessment and preliminary design.
Timmins man busted for taking property from behind Police HQ
A Timmins man has been charged for allegedly taking property, located directly behind the Police Service headquarters. A 2001 Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck was observed entering onto the property. A lone male from the truck then proceeded to attempt to steal a large industrial plastic barrel from the vacant building. The suspect abruptly fled only to be located, stopped, identified and charged.
Sudbury city council will vote on building expansion next week
At next week’s planning committee in Greater Sudbury, city councillors will vote on an application that would expand the Silver Hills Drive complex, and could incorporate some housing. The result, more housing… and potentially more traffic on Barrydowne Road and The Kingsway. The 58-acre property is currently part of a green space that incorporates a neighbourhood trail network.

The North Bay Police Service has added two EBikes to their fleet. The police unveiled a pair of brand-new donated EBikes that will be utilized by the services bike patrol which was relaunched this spring.
