COVID-19 Cases up slightly this weekend

The number of new COVID-19 cases were at a slight increase yesterday in Ontario. An additional 178 new infections were confirmed on Sunday, up from 160 reported on Saturday and 111 on Friday.
Meanwhile,
Another milestone was hit on the weekend. Global infections of COVID-19 have surpassed 10 million as the rate of new cases surges. This is as one million new cases were recorded in only six days, according to John Hopkins University.
 

Statues damaged  in Greater Sudbury

In Greater Sudbury, eight statues depicting the Stations of the Cross at Grotto of Our Lady of Lourdes in Downtown Sudbury were damaged this weekend. The vandalism was first noticed late Saturday. Police are investigating.
 

Mayor MacDonald – North Bay is ready for Stage 3

North Bay mayor Al MacDonald says the city is ready for a stage 3 reopening. In a statement to KFM NEWS the Mayor indicates that North Bay continues to have the 2nd lowest positive cases in Ontario, and when the Province is ready, the Gateway city will be as well.
The Statement is as follows:
We have the 2nd lowest positive cases in Ontario. Our priority has been safety first. We work closely with the medical officer of health and consult with him every step of the way. We are ready to move forward only with his approval and direction on protocols that must remain in place.  – Mayor Al MacDonald. 
 

8 Construction projects slated to start up in Greater Sudbury

The City of Greater Sudbury says eight new construction and road work projects set to begin over the next two weeks. These projects will be taking place throughout Greater Sudbury, the majority, in the areas of New Sudbury and the downtown core. Among the Projects, the Replacement of the Coniston Creek pedestrian bridge. It will close the walking trail from 7 a.m. on June 29, to 2 p.m. on October 30.
Also, a section of McAllister Avenue in New Sudbury will be undergoing driveway restoration and shouldering that may close one lane resulting in minor delays in the area from June 29 to July 31.
Asphalt and concrete work will cause intermittent lane closures from 471 to 1145 Lorne Street downtown, beginning 7 a.m. on June 29 to 7 p.m. on July 10.
Line marking on Second Avenue in New Sudbury will close one lane at Bancroft Drive from 7 a.m. on June 29 to 6 p.m. on July 2.
Bridge replacement on Spanish River Road will close one lane 3.1-kilometres west of Manninen Road from 7 a.m. on July 6 to 7 p.m. on July 18. Cyclist and pedestrian access will be maintained.
Road paving on Lansing Avenue in New Sudbury will close the roadway from the Maley Drive roundabout to the north side of Graywood Drive, beginning 7 a.m. on July 6 to 7 p.m. on July 18. Flagpersons will maintain a single lane for eastbound and westbound traffic on Maley Drive, but traffic will not be able to access Lansing.
Asphalt work in front of 52 and 72 Larch Street downtown, will reduce traffic to one lane from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. beginning July 1 to July 2.
Lastly, a Ministry of Transportation (MTO) Contractor will be closing Highway 537 from July 6 to July 27. Detour signs will be up to direct traffic down Red Deer Lake Road North, Jumbo Road and Cross Road.
Residents looking for more information about this last closure, are asked to call Ontario 5-1-1 or the MTO information line.
 

Porcupine Lake Beach in Timmins is closed – High Bacteria

Porcupine Lake beach in Timmins has closed. It’s all due to high levels of bacteria, according the Porcupine Health Unit. It’s is advising residents not to swim in Porcupine Lake due to high levels of bacteria and flooding until further notice.
 

Male succumbs to injures  following accident

A man in Sault Ste Marie has died, after his bicycle collided with a vehicle on a west-end street early Saturday. The collision happened in the 1000 block of Peoples Road. The 48-year-old male was taken to hospital where he succumbed to injuries. No charges have been laid.
