One new case of COVID-19 in Northern Ontario
Algoma Public Health is reporting a new COVID-19 case in the Algoma district. The exposure category is unknown at this time and the person is currently self-isolating. It is the 25th case in the region thus far.
HSN reminds everyone – please wear a mask
HSN is once again reminding all patients and visitors to wear a mask when coming to the hospital. Patients will still be seen in the Emergency Department, regardless if they are wearing a mask. Patients going for a procedure where they must remove their mask will be asked to store it with their personal items.
Police seek a missing resident: 64-year-old Terrence Harding
OPP are looking for a missing man. Last seen Wednesday in Sturgeon Falls, police describe 64-year-old Terrence Harding as five feet two inches tall, 120 pounds, with a buzz cut, and wearing a red T-shirt and grey sweatpants.
Blue-Green Algae Blooms in the Timmins Area
Toxic blue-green algae blooms have been reported in a growing number of local lakes in the Timmins area. The Porcupine Health Unit added Munro Lake in Black-River Matheson to a list that already included Big Water Lake in Timmins and Remi Lake in Moonbeam.
Regional YMCA reports $1.4 million in lost revenue
The regional YMCA in North Bay and Sudbury says the Y has lost $1.4 million so far this year. Membership dues have been suspended since near the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic in March, and the shuttering of facilities for months has put the non-profit in a precarious financial position.
New Waterbombers coming to the North East from Manitoba
A pair of water bombers from Manitoba are among four sent to Ontario to help deal with Ontario Fires in the northeastern Ontario. The water bombers include the bird dog aircraft – the smaller airplane that guides the bombers to where they are needed – as well as their aircrew and air attack officers, arrived in the area this week.
