North Bay Airport could need $1.5 million to remain operational
The North Bay Jack Garland Airport may need $1.5 million next year to remain operational. This is in a report from city staff, released ahead of Tuesday’s council meeting. This is following the indefinite suspension of scheduled services to Toronto by Air Canada.
Textile diversion program back up and running in Timmins.
A textile diversion program, run in partnership with Recycling Rewards, is returning to Timmins. This is after a successful run in September 2019. The program includes a curbside collection service for items such as used clothing, fabric and linens, as well as damaged or ripped textiles.
This year’s collection will take place from Monday, July 27 to Friday, July 31.

Storm moves through North Bay, brings down trees
The storm that ripped through the North Bay and area just before 11 a.m. yesterday may have moved quickly, but certainly left a mark. Among the damage, a number of trees were brought down, including some near First Avenue in the downtown.
Timmins Police seeking “Gas and Dash” Driver
A pick-up truck and its driver is being sought by Police after a gas and dash. It happened on Algonquin Boulevard East. The vehicle involved is a full-size black Chevrolet extended cab pickup with twin hood scoops, dark rims, and a Quebec licence plate.

A North Bay motorist will have his day in court after allegedly attempting to dodge a RIDE STOP. It happened on the 11/17 bypass. Police saw the driver pull a U-Turn… the vehicle was located in a parking lot. A 34-year-old will answer to impaired driving charges.
Sault Ste Marie area fire destroys 3-buildings
The Prince Fire Department was dispatched to a structure fire on Town Line over the weekend. Sault Ste. Marie Fire Services also responded. A large garage and two other outbuildings were destroyed. Firefighters from both departments were able to bring the fire under control in approximately one hour.

A new forest fire was discovered southwest of Searchmont yesterday. MNRF personnel say it is 0.1 of a hectare, and it not yet under control.
