Sudbury has a new case of COVID-19 this weekend

As of Sunday morning, the number of active cases of the novel coronavirus in northeastern Ontario is five. Public Health Sudbury and Districts confirmed the 71st case of the novel coronavirus Saturday evening. It is a woman in her 50s. She is now in self-isolation.
 

Water turned off at Callander Splash pad – here’s why

The community of Callander, despite the sweltering heat over the weekend, is keeping the water turned off at its splash pad. It’s all in hopes to promote physical distancing, the hope is that those looking to cool off will use nearby Lake Nipissing.
 

One new fire this weekend, North of Sault Ste Marie

There was one new fire confirmed by late afternoon on July 26. Its in Wawa at 0.1 of a hectare, southeast of Hornepayne. It is under control. There are eight other active fires across the region. All of these eight fires are being observed.
 

New policies in place for GOVA Transit

The City of Greater Sudbury has implemented new policies surrounding the use and operation of GOVA transit. For the safety of both patrons and staff amidst the COVID-19 pandemic, guests looking to enter the downtown transit kiosk must do so by way of the designated pathway to allow for a single-direction of foot traffic and riders are being asked to enter through the front of the bus and exit through the back when possible.
 

Pet groomer in North Bay moves to a new location

A pet groomer in North Bay now has a new location, after an accident, Friday saw a vehicle strike their building. Starting today, Bow Meow will be at Touch Animal Rehabilitation, located a block away. The collision that happened early Friday is under investigation.
 

Don’t forget your life jacket – OPP

After a recent safety blitz, West Nipissing OPP is reminding people to remember there are laws, when out on the water. While patrolling the lakes around the Municipality of Markstay-Warren on Thursday afternoon, police issued eight warnings and two charges for safety violations including for failure to bring a flotation device onboard a canoe.

Don’t forget your life jacket – OPP

Algoma District School Board (ADSB) and Conseil scolaire public du Grand Nord de l’Ontario (CSPGNO) now have the green light from Ministry of Education to proceed with building a new, JK-12 school in Blind River. Since 2017, both school boards have been working with ministry staff to “collaboratively make the project a reality. The design will include a childcare centre as well as an Early ON Child and family centre within the school.
