Eight new cases of COVID-19 confirmed in Greater Sudbury
Public Health Sudbury and District have revealed a serious outbreak of 8 new cases of COVID-19. Reports are saying one teenager contracted the disease on a trip, and upon returning gathered with a group of friends. As a result, 6 other teenagers and a man in his 30’s all tested positive. The health unit is once again warning the public of the importance of social distancing and wearing a mask.
Residential fire in Kap declared an act of arson
An investigation has been launched after a residential fire in Kapuskasing. James Bay OPP and the Kapuskasing Fire Department both. No one was there at the time as it was a vacant residential unit, on Kolb Avenue. Police and the Ontario Fire Marshall’s office have determined this to be an act of arson.
CAT Loader taken from a business, returned damaged
The Anishinabek Police Service is looking for suspects after someone took a piece on construction equipment. A Cat Loader 992 was stolen from a Garden River First Nation business. The loader in question was returned damaged to the compound later that same evening. Further details regarding the incident are below:
On Friday, July 3, 2020 at 5:30 p.m. suspects entered the Garden River First Nation Aggregate compound located at 216 Noon Day Dr., Garden River First Nation. Once inside the compound, suspects located a Cat Loader 992 and left the compound with the loader. While leaving the compound, suspects had to push a barrier out of the way which caused the bucket to separate from the loader. Suspects left the compound heading toward Boss Lake.
Police warn of another scam
The North Bay Police are warning of another scam. This one is connected to the Canadian Emergency Response Benefit. This is after an officer received an email about a CERB payment being made and to select a financial institution. Police remind residents to always question your emails and ensure it is legitimate before opening.
Stay off the dam! – OPG
The OPG in Timmins is warning trespassers of the dangers of trespassing. This week, the notice was issued… after several people were seen on area dams. The OPG warns that stations are remotely controlled, and they could start and stop at any time.
A silver lining with COVID-19
Doctors in Canada and around the world are reporting an unprecedented drop in premature births. In fact – the number of babies born with a weight of less than one kilogram has dropped by a whopping 50%. Health officials are saying the COVID lockdown has benefited babies by limiting socially transmitted infections and getting more rest by not having to travel to work.
