More delays for North Bay drivers this week
As part of ongoing construction in North Bay, the detour at the intersection of Olive Street and Cassells Street will be reduced to one lane starting today. It’s all for the installation of sewer and water infrastructure. Temporary traffic lights will be in place. The work is expected to be complete by the end of next week.
Power restored after a “blown transformer” on Bonik Tower
A “blown transformer” is being blamed for a power outage yesterday in Greater Sudbury. It happened at Bonik Tower affecting a residential apartment building on Arthur Street. Power has since been restored.
Downtown plaza being purposed in Sault Ste Marie
Sault Ste Marie City council will hear a presentation tonight on a planned downtown plaza. Drawings will be rolled out for council members on the plaza which could include a fountain, splash pad, skating rink, eating areas, an outdoor market, and even a bonfire spot. The hope is that it will draws the community to the area.
HSN staff upping their game with COVID-19 testing
HSN in Greater Sudbury is giving its staff at the hospitals’ COVID testing centre a nod this week. This is after a record number of tests were done, just before the weekend. The average jumped to 560 tests per day, up from 234 during the last week of August.
Fire hall activities will be “toned down” this October 31st
Powassan Mayor Peter McIsaac says the fire departments in Powassan and Trout Creek will host a activities on October 31st of this year, COVID-19 or not. That said, activities will be toned down a bit. Instead of a maze, children will be met with someone at the door who will give them a treat and then they move on.
Collision reporting center will remain at Soo Police Headquarters
The collision reporting centre in Sault Ste Marie will continue to operate out of Sault Ste. Marie Police Service’s headquarters. This is after an agreement was reached between the board and the Sault Ste. Marie Accident Support Services was reached. It will now be at the Second Line East site from Nov. 1 to Oct. 31, 2030.

The McIntyre Curling Club in Timmins is hoping for a curling season. In short, it’s up to the public to register, before a decision can be made. In person registrations will be held October 6th, 7th and 8th between 5:00 and 8:00pm. You can also register online.
