One new case of COVID-19 announced by the North Bay Parry Sound District Health Unit

The North Bay Parry Sound District Health Unit is reporting one new case of COVID-19 Monday. The latest case involves a person 19 or younger, whose exposure to the coronavirus is still under investigation. There are currently five active cases in the health unit region, all of which are in Nipissing District.
 

Meeting called today by Sudbury Mayor Brian Bigger on recent incidents

Greater Sudbury Leaders will be meeting to talk about a way forward, following a string violent events in the downtown. The meeting, being called by Mayor Brian Bigger and will include Police Chief Paul Pedersen, Chief Medical officer of health, Penny Sutcliffe from Public Health Sudbury and Districts, representatives of the Canadian Mental Health Association and Downtown Sudbury.
 

$13.1 million needed to keep property tax increase is to remain at or below 3.9 per cent, says committee

Sudbury’s finance committee has begun discussing the 2021 budget. They forecast more than $13 million will needs to be trimmed from the municipal budget if the property tax increase is to remain at or below 3.9 per cent. Staff indicates service level adjustments will be required.
 

Water Quality, Pressure could fluctuate today in Schumacher and South Porcupine

Water quality could be affected in Schumacher and South Porcupine during scheduled water infrastructure maintenance activities. The city says the work has already started and is expected to affect users on Goldmine Road, including the Newmont mine site, Delnite and Ankerite properties.
 

Interactive Sign to shine Purple this Thursday

The interactive Timmins sign will be shine purple this coming Thursday. All to show support for people with disabilities, this is the first time Timmins is taking part in the Light It Up campaign. October is National Disability Employment Awareness Month. Additionally, sign at the Timmins Museum: National Exhibition Centre will be purple and blue.
 

OPP are looking into a break, enter and theft

Sault Ste Marie OPP are looking into a break enter and theft. Reports that firearms and jewellery were stolen from a residence in Hayden. It’s believed it happened between Oct. 9 and Oct. 16th. There is no threat to public safety.

GFL memorial gardens open to show off upgrades

GFL Memorial Gardens in Sault Ste Marie was open this week to show off some of the off-season upgrades done to the arena. The greyhounds club has spent over $1,000,000 in co-operation with the city toward a number of upgrades, including a $600,000 dollar scoreboard system now hangs over the ice, new lighting adorns the building. The stanchions and glass have all been replaced.
 

Soo Library could be open next month, maybe.

The Sault Ste. Marie’s North Branch Library is now being planned for some time next month. Resumption of service was originally set for Oct. 5 but delayed attempting to keep pace with other services in the Province, in the second wave of COVID.
