Four news cases of COVID-19 announced by Sudbury Health Unit

Public Health Sudbury & Districts reported three new cases of COVID-19 on Saturday and one additional case on Sunday. Of the four, three are from Greater Sudbury and one is from Manitoulin District. Two are outbreak-related, and two remain under investigation.
 

Cases counts include on at a Matachewan-area mine.

the Algoma Public Health the Porcupine Health Unit and the Timiskaming Health Unit, all reported new cases of COVID-19. The Timiskaming Health Unit says theirs is linked to the outbreak at a Matachewan-area mine. The 18th case for the Timiskaming Health Unit is in the Kirkland Lake area. According to the health unit, the person is a contact of a case and is self-isolating.
 

Swat Team a Birchhaven residence in North Bay

A SWAT team was on site of a home in the Birch haven area this weekend in North Bay. This is after an alleged firearm-related robbery. Two people were taken into custody without incident. There was no threat to public safety.
 

No curling season in Mindemoya this year

The Mindemoya Curling Club says there will be no curling season this year due to the pandemic. While Gore Bay is still looking to open, the central Island community says the decision comes following a meeting by the club’s executive.
 

Power being restored following massive outages

Hydro One says its crews have been to restore the power for tens of thousands. The utility said early this morning that some 238,000 homes and businesses had yet to be reconnected after wind gusts topping 100 km/hour started lashing the province Sunday. The outage area stretched from Windsor in the south to the Sudbury area in the north, and all the way east to the Ottawa area.
 

Burk’s Falls and Sundridge pull the plug on Christmas Parade.

Burk’s Falls and Sundridge are the latest communities to pull the plug on a number of Christmas festivities, including the annual Christmas Parade. They join a number of Nipissing area communities, including North Bay who have cancelled the event already. The committee says they simply do not have enough people to ensure the public maintains social distancing when gathering.
