A 28-year OPP veteran has died in the line of duty
A 28-year-vetran has died in the line of duty. Yesterday at around 11:00 a.m. two members from the Manitoulin Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police were conducting a follow-up investigation related to a property dispute in Gore Bay. There was an interaction between a person at the scene and an officer resulting in one officer being fatally shot. 52-year-old Marc HOVINGH. The person at the scene died as a result of the interaction. The OPP said in a release this morning no other police officers were injured in this incident.
New COVID-19 site open for Greater Sudbury Residents
Ahead of the weekend, Sudbury area residents will be tested for the COVID-19 at a new location in the city’s south end. HSN made the decision to move the COVID-19 Assessment centre from Walford Road to 2050 Regent Street. The hospital indicates the new venue will allow for more convenient testing with the arrival of colder and snowy weather.
3-new cases of COVID-19 in North Bay area
The North Bay Parry Sound Health Unit is reporting three new COVID cases today. Two are in the 20-39 age group and one is 60-79. Two contracted the virus by close contact with a case, while a third got the case by travelling outside of Ontario.
Drinking water advisory remains in place
Public Health Sudbury & Districts says a drinking water advisory remains in effect for the town of Chapleau. This is following a watermain break. At this time bottled water is being encouraged for consumption.
Witnesses sought following a rash of property crime
Public information is being sought after a rash of property crimes. A number of local businesses Elm Street, Cedar Street and the Kingsway have all been broken into in the last month and have suffered hundreds losses. In some cases, vandalism was also done.
Cochrane District EMS sends out an invite for Toy Drive
The Cochrane District EMS with staff from the Cochrane District Social Services Administration Board are putting out the invite to their 9th Annual Toy Drive. New, unwrapped toys, can be dropped off for kids in need, made from 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. in the parking lots of both Canadian Tire and Walmart next Saturday.
