Six people confirmed with COVID-19 by Algoma Public Health

Six more Algoma residents have tested positive for COVID-19. Four are from Sault Ste. Marie and area and two are from Central and East Algoma. The individuals involved are all self isolating.
 

Greater Sudbury Police looking for Driver posing as a Police Officer

Greater Sudbury Police are looking for the driver of a White Dodge Charger equipped with red and blue lights, after its driver posed as police officer, conducting a traffic stop. It happened on The Kingsway Monday morning. The individual was wearing a black face mask, a black toque and a radio attached to a black vest. The man then asked the woman if where she was going was essential in nature and instructed her to go home… the driver then followed her for a short time. Police remind the public that, despite the stay-at-home order, police don’t have the power to stop someone to find out where they are going.
 

Timmins looking at refurbishing island traffic island

Its proposal is now being discussed in Timmins to refurbish the cities interlocking brick installations. Purposed this week, it would take 435-thousand dollars over five years. The brick is 35 years old and starting to show its age. Following that discussion, Mayor George Pirie wants to see the scope of the word broadened to include the possibility of one-way streets and re-timed lights on Algonquin Boulevard. The BIA is already working on its own long-term strategic plan.
 

Greater Sudbury council looking at KED timeline

Greater Sudbury city council will have a look at the timelines and work associated with the Kingsway Entertainment District and two other sites. All slated for their Feb. 9th meeting, Council received a large project update Tuesday night. Other project includes Place des Arts, Junction East, Junction West along with the KED.
 

St. David School school is now online

St. David School in Greater Sudbury is in full online learning more, after two more people tested positive for COVID-19. This is the third cases associated with the Sudbury Catholic District School Board’s elementary school. An outbreak in a school setting is declared when two or more lab-confirmed cases of COVID-19 are linked and occur within 14 days of each other.
 

Powassan Sportsplex and Trout Creek arena

Powassan council is removing the ice from the Sportsplex and Trout Creek arena. The decision was made on the recommendation of its recreation and facilities manager. This was done in part with the lockdown and stay at home order.

14-drivers are charged with impaired driving

Numbers are in for the latest RIDE Campaign from Sault Ste Marie Police. It was done at the top end of January. Fourteen impaired-related charges were laid. Twenty-nine roadside tests and one three-day license suspension were also handed out.
