Four more residents at Extendicare Kapuskasing pass away from COVID-19

Four more residents at Extendicare Kapuskasing have died from COVID-19, the local health unit says. No further information is being shared, out of the respect for family members. That said, a statement from Extendicare Kapuskasing says all residents continue to isolate in their rooms, where they are being provided with meals and individual care and support.
 

New cases of COVID by the Porcupine and Algoma Health Units

Meanwhile, five new of COVID-19 have been reported by Porcupine Health Unit. Of the new confirmed cases two are linked to the Extendicare Kapuskasing outbreak, one person is in the Kapuskasing area and the contact of a case. Two are in the area of Hearst, Hornepayne.
Elsewhere,
Six more Algoma District residents have tested positive for COVID-19. Four are from Sault Ste. Marie and area, one is from Central and East Algoma and one is from Elliot Lake and area.
 

St. Joseph’s Villa in Greater Sudbury apply for assistance

St. Joseph’s Villa in Greater Sudbury is asking the city for assistance. It’s all to complete some renovations. St. Joe’s has recently undertaken a $4.2 million, three-year retrofit program to remediate some long-standing issues with the building.
Additional information: They have replaced the roof and plan to upgrade the heating, ventilation and AC system; they need new windows; beds, mattresses and blanket warmers; new kitchen equipment; and new bathroom facilities, including therapeutic tubs.
 

Four Nipissing school boards getting over $1 million in new funding

Four school boards in Nipissing are getting just over $1 million in funding. From the Province, it’s to protect students and staff in the face of the Pandemic. Provided through the federal Safe Return to Class Fund, it will support schools to improve air quality and ventilation, support online learning, promote student mental health and hire additional staff.
 

Woman charged after a pedestrian MVC

West Nipissing OPP have charged a woman after a pedestrian was struck on Front St. in Sturgeon Falls. EMS transported the pedestrian to the local hospital with minor non-life-threatening injuries. The 33-year-old woman is facing a number of charges, including impaired driving.
 

The Province of Ontario announces in-class learning will resume in Southern Ontario

In-class learning will resume in Toronto, Peel and York regions on Tuesday, February 16th. Every other public school board for will open for in-person learning this coming Monday, February 8th.
