Those at a social gathering need to get tested for COVID says Health Unit
Public Health Sudbury and Districts is advising anyone who attended a social gathering at 451 Old Webbwood Rd. in Espanola on April 23, to get tested for COVID-19. It happened between 8:45 p.m. and 10:30 p.m. The health unit says the gathering may have resulted in high-risk public exposure to COVID-19.
Suspected wanted in shed fire on school property
Police are looking to identify the person who allegedly set a shed on fire at a Timmins school. It happened at the École Catholique St-Gérard school property in the early morning hours of April 14. The damage is estimated at $1,500. The suspect is described as a male, 6′ to 6’3″ tall with a slim build. He was wearing a pink nylon hooded jacket, blue jeans and black Nike high tops.
New cases of COVID-19 reported in 4 health unit areas
Public Health Sudbury and Districts (PHSD) reported eight new cases of COVID-19 yesterday. Meanwhile, the North Bay Parry Sound Health Unit reported four new COVID.The Porcupine Health Unit reported 10 new cases of COVID. 19m, while the Algoma Public Health is reporting three new COVID-19 cases in the Algoma region. Of the new cases, two are in the Sault Ste. Marie area and the third is in the Elliot Lake area.
Travel advisory issued for Timmins area
Drivers in Timmins could see some dicy weather today. Environment Canada says the area could see more snow accompanied by stiff and cold northwesterly winds move across the region today. Motorists should be prepared for poor winter driving conditions due to low visibility.
Sault Ste Marie, St. Joes could feel the wind today
Elsewhere those in Sault Ste Marie and St Joe’s Island may need to batten down the hatches. Strong northwest wind could be gusting to 80 km/h today. In some isolated power outages are also possible. That said it is expected to ease up this afternoon.
Expedition hoped for in the building of new Island bridge
Members of the Manitoulin Municipal Association are hoping the expedite the replacing the current swing bridge in Little Current. In short, while excitement is building over the new bridge, concerns are mounting over the old one. It has been noted that without expedition it could take five to 10 years for all approvals and the construction of the bridge to be completed.
