Zero new cases of COVID-19 in Greater Sudbury, again

For the second day in a row yesterday, Public Health Sudbury and Districts reported zero new cases of COVID-19 in the local jurisdiction. 37 active cases being watched locally. Public Health Ontario has reported 287 new COVID-19 cases yesterday and 379 new recoveries.
 

Sault Ste Marie looking at automatic voting tabulators

The city of Sault Ste Marie says they will use vote-counting machines in the 2022 municipal election. This comes after a century of manually counting them and City Council will be asked at tonight’s meeting to authorize the issue of request for vote tabulators. The cost of an election counted with tabulators is estimated at $320,000, compared to the estimated $280,000 cost of doing it manually.
 

Elliot Lake Noise Bylaws updated – ps.  Keep your dog down

The city of Elliot Lake has updated noise bylaws. Everything from barking dogs to personal stereos to noisy motorcycles, to lawnmowers to construction equipment made the list. The time frame by and large goes from 11 pm – 7 am daily. Dog barking and high noise exhausts on motorcycles, other excessive sounds (tires squealing, horns, revving engines) on motor vehicles are not allowed at any time of the day or night. Franco Ontario Flag now flying in Onaping Falls

The latest flag the fly in Greater Sudbury is now at the top of the pole in Onaping Falls. The Franco-Ontarian flag has a new permanent home the AY Jackson Lookout. The goal, according to Mayor Brian Bigger who raised the flag is to “… support issues that enrich our francophone community”
 

Soo Fire Services respond to fire at an abandoned house

Sault Ste. Marie Fire Services were called to reports of smoke coming from the second story of a house in the 200 block of North Street yesterday. It happened shortly before 5 p.m. People were reportedly inside the abandoned structure but no suspect information has been released. Anyone with information is asked to contact Police.
 

LOCK it or LOSE it, say OPP

Temiskaming OPP is reporting a number of thefts from vehicles. All in the Temiskaming Detachment area, police have not provided info on vehicles nor potential suspects. Police would like to remind the public that a professional thief can steal your vehicle in just 30 seconds – without the key, and it’s important to keep your vehicle locked.
 

Canada Day fireworks delayed

The town of Sundridge is hoping to reschedule their Canada Day fireworks celebrations. While Canada Day is Thursday, the fireworks display had been planned for Sunday at the local wharf. Proposed re-scheduled dates are to have the fireworks either July 25 or Aug. 29, both of which are Sundays.
