Sudbury inmates being transferred following COVID-19 outbreak
145 inmates are being transferred out of the Sudbury Jail. This is after a COVID-19 outbreak was declared. While it’s not clear how many cases are involved, inmates are being transferred to other institutions in Ontario as the ministry closes jail ‘for a minimum 14 days” due to COVID-19 precaution.
Watershed Condition Statement/Flood outlook issued for Chippewa Creek
The North Bay-Mattawa Conservation Authority has issued a Watershed Conditions Statement or a Flood Outlook for Chippewa Creek. The authority says recent rainfall has left the ground saturated and water levels significantly above average for this time of year. The conditions combined with 23mm of rain in the forecast over the weekend have prompted the flood outlook and water safety statement.
Two arrested in Timmins, following a pair of calls for service
The Timmins Police Service arrested 2 local residents after the execution of respective arrest warrants. This is following two incidents over the weekend. While responding to a “suspicious person” call for service in the vicinity of Cedar Street North an officer recognized the subject of the complaint as being a “wanted person”. A second “suspicious person” call for service was received from a Birch Street South residence. A second “wanted person” was then taken into custody.
More cancellations of School buses following COVID-19 driven driver shortage
COVID-19 continues to cause headaches for students trying to get to school. The Sudbury Student Services Consortium says due to a driver shortage, seven routes were canceled again this morning. There is no word as to when all routes will be restored as the Consortium looks for replacements.
The following routes were cancelled: L003, L025, L029, L102, L133, L500 and L815.
New case of COVID-19 at Ecole Ste. Raymond
The North Bay Parry Sound District Health unit says one new case of COVID-19 has been identified in the Ecole St-Raymond community, in Sturgeon Falls. The letter, sent by the North Bay Parry Sound District Health Unit, states students in a Grade 5/6 class who were at the school from Oct. 11 to 15 are high-risk close contacts of the COVID-19 case.
Mushkegowuk Council Grand Chief Jonathan Solomon has announced his retirement. With over a year still left in his term, Solomon said he is leaving the office to focus on his health and spend more time with his family in his home community of Kashechewan.
NBRHC to receive another COVID-19 patient
The North Bay Regional Health Centre is receiving a COVID-19 patient from Saskatchewan. Slated to transfer today, it is not the first time the health center has received a transfer. Earlier this year, the North Bay Regional Health Centre took more than five COVID-19 patients from overwhelmed southern Ontario hospitals, including several from out-of-province.
44-year-old arrested following a theft
Kirkland Lake OPP has busted one man following an alleged theft. This is after a call to service from a business located on McChesney Avenue in the Township. While the details have not been given, a 44-year-old has now been released with a court date in November.
