Outbreak and Sudbury Jail confirmed with numbers

Public Health Sudbury and Districts have provided an update on the Jail outbreak, saying as of news time, 17 inmates and four staff from Sudbury Jail have tested positive for COVID-19. The Sudbury Jail will be closed for at least two weeks. 145 inmates will be sent to other locations in the province, most to the Central North Correctional Centre in Penetanguishene.
 

New development confirmed for North Bay

A proposed new residential development is getting the thumbs up from North Bay city council. Set to go up on Brookes Street – next to the former Dr. MacDougall public school – the property is now currently being used for parking at the Indigenous Hub, which offers primary care, daycare services, traditional healing and social services. DNSSAB says there is “a need for affordable housing options” in the city.
 

Damages from fire pegged at 1/2 million, no injuries

Timmins fire now says the blaze in South Porcupine at the former Gold Range Hotel at the corner of Golden Avenue and Main Street, caused roughly $500,000 in damage. It happened Sunday, just before 10 a.m. The fire was accidental and caused by an appliance failure.
 

East Ferris Publishes COVID-19 vaccine policy

East Ferris has unveiled their vaccination policy will apply to all municipal workers. In short, full-time, part-time, temporary, casual, contract, volunteers, students and contractors performing work in municipal facilities are to be fully vaccinated by November 15th. It also applies to those working from home. The policy also covers members of the East Ferris Fire Department, members of council and members of council-appointed committees.
 

Hillside Drive North Elliot Lake’s next major road project

Elliot Lake City Council has given staff the green light to proceed with Hillside Drive North as the city’s next major road project. Stretching from Hutchinson to Highway 108 the hope is to address all below-ground infrastructure including water distribution, sanitary sewer and the transmission main. The project will also include replacing the storm sewer, sidewalk, concrete curb and gutter, as well as asphalt and sub-drains. The estimated cost of the project is $6.6 million, plus applicable taxes and will take two years to complete.
