Restructuring Laurentian University could cost $19.84 million dollars

The Ontario Auditor General says costs associated with restructuring Laurentian University are expected to total $19.84 million dollars. Thus far the school has spent $9.86 million on restructuring costs between January and August.

North Bay Driver facing a number of charges

A 32-year-old suspect will have to explain himself, after an alleged vehicle theft stolen from a parking lot on Fisher Street. It happened on Nov. 26. Members of the North Bay Police Service observed the stolen vehicle travelling at a high rate of speed before the accused stopped in a parking lot of a business on Lakeshore Drive. The accused struck the officer’s vehicle with the stolen vehicle, fled the scene while driving erratically, and struck another vehicle on the road before landing in a ditch on Highway 654. The suspect was placed under arrest.

Fire personnel respond to a multi-unit residential fire in Sault Ste Marie

Sault Ste Marie Fire responded to a multi-unit residential fire, at a dwelling on Albert Street West, Wednesday. The building, in the 0-100 block sustained significant damage after the fire broke out during the early evening. Flames were visible on the main level of the dwelling when firefighters arrived. Fire crews were able to contain and extinguish the fire. An investigation determined the fire was caused due to a pot of oil left unattended on the stove.

Sault Ste Marie city council approves Multi-Year Accessibility Plan

Sault Ste Marie City council has approved its updated Multi-Year Accessibility Plan. The annual budget for barrier removal is $85,000 and 10 barrier removal projects are slated for 2022. Many of the projects are annual ongoing expenses.

Temiskaming Hospital reinstating the mandatory use of eye protection

Temiskaming Hospital is once again restricting visitors… and reinstating the mandatory use of eye protection. The hospital says, like making vaccinations mandatory for visitors (Unless they have a medical exemption) is all part of COVID-19 Protocols.
 

Culvert repairs set for next week in Elliot Lake

Drivers in Elliot Lake are being warned of an emergency culvert repair. It’s happening at the 12 km mark on Dunlop Shores Road and will involve the complete removal of the culverts and a temporary single lane road for residents past this culvert. The repair will take place next week starting Monday or Tuesday weather permitting. It is expected to last two or three days. During this time, it will be a single-lane road.
 

One person taken to hospital following crash in Sault Ste Maire

One person was taken to hospital, following a collision in Sault Ste Marie yesterday, just before 3pm. Upon arrival, they located a white car that had struck a concrete barrier at the corner of East Street and Wellington Street in Sault Ste. Marie. Sault Police Service stopped all traffic from accessing Wellington from East street, as well as one lane of Wellington street while they investigated.
