COVID-19 Outbreak at Ecole Catholique St-Michel

The Timiskaming Health Unit has declared an outbreak at Ecole Catholique St-Michel. Timiskaming Health Unit has been working closely with École Catholique St-Michel and its school board (the Conseil Scolaire Catholique de District des Grandes Rivières) to ensure all necessary contact tracing and testing is being completed.
 

LU University reporting a Low-Risk exposure to COVID-19

Laurentian University is reporting a low-risk exposure to COVID-19. It was for those attending an exam session in the Ben Avery Gymnasium at 2 p.m. Friday, Dec. 10.  A written statement from the university says “All health and safety protocols were followed and PHSD is asking those who were present to follow their recommended actions”
 

Northern municipalities given more for infrastructure help

Northern municipalities can access new financial resources for infrastructure help. The Ontario government has announced it will provide $15 million annually over the next five years to the North’s 144 municipalities, all under the new Northern Ontario Resource Development Support (NORDS) Fund.
 

Ski and Snowboard Village opening soon

The Tri-Town Ski and Snowboard Village east of Cobalt they’re gearing up for another season. Downhill skiing, snowboarding and tubing will all be available. While there is no word as to when opening day will be full health restrictions are expected to be in place.
 

Police report double collision on Hwy 17 in Greater Sudbury

West Nipissing OPP Police and Sudbury OPP are investigating two separate motor vehicle collisions on highway 17. They both happened at same location the City of Greater Sudbury at 12:15 a.m. on December 11. Police attended the scene and observed approximately three meters of guardrail damaged along the highway, leaving large pieces of debris on the highway. Two separate vehicles had struck the debris causing damage to both of the vehicles.
 

NBDCC announces new board chair

The Board of Directors at the North Bay & District Chamber of Commerce has a new chair. Natasha Penn has been elected for 2022. A business development consultant with a focus on economic development with another firm, Penn has experience working with a variety of businesses, non-profits and municipalities across Northern Ontario.
 

Timmins Police seeking a missing man – 39-year old Michael Nault

Timmins Police Service is seeking a missing person. 39-year-old Michael Nault is described as:
• a Caucasian male person
• Height: 5’9”
• Weight: approximately 170 lbs
• Build: thin
• brown hair
• hazel eyes
 

149 Gore street coming down in Sault Ste Marie, but it will be pricey

Sault Ste Marie City Council has agreed to pay for the building demolition at 149 Gore Street. The price tag handed to taxpayers, however, could be as much as $400,000. The building was declared dangerous in April. The city has taken legal action against the owner, but the building deteriorated so much that officials decided it needed to be demolished immediately for safety and liability reasons.
