Booster shot available for those over 18 as Monday

Ontario is expanding eligibility for COVID-19 booster shots. They are open to anyone 18 and older starting Monday. The government also says it’s shortening the required interval between a person’s second dose and booster shot from six months down to three months. For more, go here.
 

COVID-19 outbreak declared at Parkland Public School

Algoma Public Health has declared a COVID-19 outbreak at Parkland Public School in Sault Ste Marie. Algoma District School Board says two people at the Amber Street school have tested positive.
Meanwhile, parents and guardians of children at St. Joseph Island Central Public School were alerted by APH on Tuesday that one person at that school tested positive for COVID-19.
 

LU votes to shift school year dates, exam times

The Laurentian University senate has voted to delay the beginning of the winter term. It will move from Jan. 10 to Jan. 17. The last day of classes next term will move from April 8 to April 14, and the first day of exams moved from April 9 to April 16, and the last day of exams moved from April 29 to April 30.
 

NBRHC Diagnostic Imaging Department is open, once again

The North Bay Regional Health Centre’s Diagnostic Imaging Department is back online. This is after a new upgraded MRI machine went in thanks to a $1.7-million community-funded project that started in late August.
 

Polar Bear Habitat looking for a “New Direction”

Cochrane Polar Bear Habitat is looking for a new direction. This is after operations of the attraction were transferred to the town. Mayor Denis Clement says the team is looking to develop a new strategic plan to make it self-sustaining. Currently, the habitat’s three resident polar bears are enjoying the winter weather.
 

Timmins Police remind drivers to “Lock it or lose it”

Timmins Police are reminding residents to lock it or lose it. They indicate the winter season typically comes with an uptick in vehicle break-ins. In a statement to reporters this week, Police say it’s important to lock their doors, even if in a common area in the middle of the day. Police also advise people to deactivate the tap feature on their debit and credit cards and tuck valuables while away from their vehicle.
