Here’s a look at this morning’s headlines for Wednesday, November 30

A brief power outage has been planned for Sunday, Dec. 4 for parts of the Greater Sudbury area. Just over 2500 customers will be without power for 90 minutes between 9 a.m. – 10:30 am. Effected townships will include Trill, Fairbank, Whitefish Lake 6FN, Denison, Nairn and Hyman, Dieppe, Graham, Louise, Lorne, Hanmer, Drury, Waters, Foster and Truman.

Some in New Sudbury were forced to think “Coyote Wise” after a resident on Magnolia Boulevard in New Sudbury near a popular historical trail spotted the K9 out for a walk yesterday.

There is no word on injuries nor the cause of a multi-vehicle collision in North Bay, on the 11/17bipass at around the dinner hour yesterday.

A winter storm warning is in effect north of Timmins indicating that snowfall accumulations could be 20 to 30 cm by this evening.

The Sault Ste. Museum on Queen St. East now has, on display the Lake Nipissing Beading Project along with others for a short number of weeks. It is a 5-metre beaded re-imagining of Lake Nipissing and its waterways using 444 individually beaded pieces.

North Bay Fire personnel are reminding residents to update themselves on the safety workings of wood-burning fireplaces, with the rising costs of electric heat.

Environment Canada says a snow squall watch is in effect for Sault Ste Marie and Elliot Lake. They note that local snowfall accumulations could be 20 to 35 cm by tomorrow (Thursday) morning. In addition, high winds could result in extensive blowing snow and reduced visibility.

Sault Ste Marie Police are warning residents of a rising scam in the area of those looking for technical support while using the internet which cost the victim $2,000, according to a news release.

If you think the winter weather can’t make up its mind, you’re not alone. Despite warm and mild temperatures stretching on throughout most of the fall season, the Weather Network says frigid temps are on the way for December, before fluctuating once again in the new year.

The City of Greater Sudbury is highlighting building permit numbers issued for the second and third quarters of 2022, which totalled some $64 million dollars.

Meanwhile, city Ward 12 Coun. Joscelyne Landry-Altman and Ward 8 Coun. Al Sizer have been selected as deputy mayors for Greater Sudbury.

In Nipissing, hundreds of children aged four to 12 will be making homemade Christmas cards for those in LTC thanks to a partnership between the Near North Palliative Care Network, and the Near North School Board.

Snow squall warnings are in effect for Elliot Lake, Sault Ste Marie and surrounding areas. Drivers are being reminded to adjust their driving habits and watch their distance.
