Due to the mild temperatures, the Ramsey Lake Skating Path in Greater Sudbury, along with a number of outdoor rinks have closed for the season.

A new inclusive playground is coming to the North Bay downtown waterfront. The City and the Rotary Clubs have partnered to build a nautical-themed playground which will feature two free-standing play structures.

The Mattagami Region Conservation Authority says the snow depth across the area continues to be below normal. This week marks the second annual report.

Two local projects in Sault Ste Marie will receive funding from the Environmental Sustainability Committee for undertaking what are being called ‘green’ projects. The city’s lawn maintenance equipment electrification project will receive just over $3,900. The Invasive Species Centre Himalayan Balsam Community Management Project will receive just north of $6,400.

Two outbreaks declared over at St. Joseph’s General Hospital are now over. The APH says outbreaks at the Oaks Centre and the CCU first floor unit are resolved.

Sudbury City council has approved security enhancements for Greater Sudbury Housing Corporation’s 16 locations. All part of budget deliberations last month, the number of municipal law enforcement officers will go from three full-time and four part-timer positions, to eight total.

Two business buildings in North Bay’s are expanding. In the area of 300 Wyld St, when complete, 20 apartment units are being added on to the upper floors of the Main Street building.

Timmins police are offering cash incentives to encourage more officers to apply to the local service. The cash incentives include one for officers with at least three years experience and the other is a tuition reimbursement program.

Elliot Lake city council has called off a proposed vehicle drag race event for the city.

Sault Police are adding dynamic patrols within schools. Three officers dedicated to schools were reassigned during COVID-19 closures, and now a new expansion of Sault Ste. Marie Police Service’s dynamic patrols is a first step in returning to face-to-face interaction with staff and students.

Over 2,000 Staff at Sudbury Tax Centre, along with other members of the Union of Taxation Employees across Canada, are talking of job action, over wage increases and flexibility to work from home.

In North Bay, Armed Forces Day is going ahead for the first time in three years, June 7 at the North Bay waterfront.

The Timmins Police Service is asking for help to locate a missing minor. 12 year old Kyra Duhn is described as a Caucasian female, 5′ 6″ in height with brown hair, and blue eyes. She was last seen wearing a black winter coat, black hoodie, blue jeans and white/pink running shoes. She also wears round gold-rimmed glasses.

The provincial government is poised to unveil its budget Thursday and one group set to be watching is the Sault Ste. Marie Chamber of Commerce. They say much of the local economy is tied to Tenaris and Algoma Steel.
